Sib. 7.5: Moving one note in a single voice chord to another staff quickly
Posted by PianoBrain1 - 27 Jan 03:49AM
I work with a lot of piano music, and sometimes I come upon a chord where I want to select some notes, then press some shortcut and have those notes "move" to the other staff. If the other staff already has notes in that time position in the same voice, the moving notes are "added" to what's there.

For instance, if I have CEG chord in the top staff (Right hand), and I might want C and E to show up in the bottom staff (Left Hand). And if bottom staff already has an A in the same spot, I now get ACE chord.

Is there a way to do it with a single shortcut (some plugin I have overlooked), perhaps?

Thanks,
a1

Using the number keys on the top row of your keyboard, in the instance you quote, select the A then press 3 twice. That's about as short as you will get.

Well, I still would need to delete the notes in the other staff, too...
Also, my notes actually have note on velocities which I want to preserve.

Yeah, it seems like writing own plugin is the only option here.

i.e.,
-select the notes I want to move manually
-execute MoveNotesToOtherPianoStaff.plg through a shortcut

(I wish there was an existing one, I could just tweak slightly.)

Try this to see if it works for you:

- select the notehead(s) you wish to move;
- Cut (Ctrl-X);
- click and then shift-click the note/chord to which you wish to move them (so as to make a blue passage selection);
- "Paste into Voice" into a spare Voice number;
- select the newly created notehead(s) and use the keypad (or Alt-number key) to change their Voice to the required one;
- that should merge the new notes with the existing ones.

Here is my idea for the plugin:

-Copy all parameters of the selected notes
-Delete the notes from their staff.
-Choose the "other staff": use the one that's below the one where the selected notes were if there are no more staffs above (i.e., the staff is at the very top), or vice versa.
-Generate the saved notes in the chosen staff in voice 4. (This means that it probably won't work if I have complex music with all 4 voices).
-Delete all Voice 4 rests.
-Select the generated notes (this allows the user to quickly press Alt-1,2 etc), if it makes sense to "Add them to the existing voices".
-End plugin

Does that make sense as the basic outline?
