Sib. 6.x: Uninstalling/deleting copy of Sibelius before it is unregistered?
Posted by skybluegiant - 20 Jan 04:31PM
Hi all,

I've recently gotten a new computer and have transferred all my information over to it. I am trying to unregister my copy of Sibelius from my old computer so that I can register it on my new computer. I discovered by browsing the forum here that I would need to submit a request on the Avid support page, which I did, and I am waiting for them to respond.

My question is this: I am selling my old computer to someone and need to delete all the data from it before I do. If I proceed with that now--uninstall/delete Sibelius from the old computer and turn it over to someone else--will that impede the process of Avid unregistering the copy in any way? Do I need to still have the computer in my possession with Sibelius installed on it for the unregistration to proceed? I simply have no idea what this process entails or if I will have to do anything further at my end involving the old computer.

(I have written down my serial number so that I will be able to register the copy on my new computer, and I have already transferred a copy of the program over to the new computer, so once unregistration is complete I will be able to register Sibelius on my new computer without a problem. I just want to know if I can go ahead and get rid of my old computer without it causing any problems.)

Thank you!

You do not need to ask for any help from Avid on this. You only need help from Avid if you have lost access to the old PC, such as after a crash.

Simply de-activate Sibelius on the old computer, before uninstalling Sibelius.

Then activate Sibelius on the new PC.

Is de-activating the same thing as unregistering? I tried the "Unregister Sibelius" option on my old computer several times and nothing happened. I came to this forum yesterday to see if other people had had a similar problem and found several threads stating that I would need to go here: http://avid.force.com/Support/RegistrationCaseCreation

I think it had something to do with my OS (my old computer is a Mac OS X 10.9.5).

At any rate, it sounds like you're saying that I CAN unregister Sibelius from my old computer with the help of Avid whether or not the old computer is in my possession anymore. Is that correct? That's all I actually need to know, as someone is waiting to buy my old computer and erase the data.

You did not specify the operating system in the previous post. You will not be able to de-activate Sibelius 6 on Mavericks. You must wait for help from Avid registration support.

I know, I contacted support yesterday. My question is whether it is absolutely necessary to keep the old computer in my possession until I hear back from them.
