Sib. 7.5: Sibelius - Only 'Lite' sounds working on large scores
Posted by Hoontar - 18 Jan 04:11PM
Hi everyone, I've got Sibelius 7.5 running on Mac OSX Yosemite, and my 'lite' sound set works for all of my scores, but the normal sound configuration doesn't playback anything on my larger scores (orchestral etc.). On scores for fewer instruments (less than 8ish) the normal configuration works perfectly. I have 4gigs RAM, dual core 2.53 processors. Any reason why the normal playback isn't working on certain scores? Thanks for any help or guidance.

This issue is commonly reported against Sibelius on Macs: it doesn't seem to have such an impact with Sibelius on Windows.

Here are some mitigations and work-arounds:

1. Ensure that the Bass Clarinet patch has been applied to the Sibelius 7 Sounds sample library;
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/troubleshooting/Unable-to-play-back-some-scores-in-Sibelius-7-5-problem-with-Bass-Clarinet-patch

2. In Sibelius Properties -> Playback -> Sibelius Player Options, ensure that "Maximum number of channels" is set to 128;

3. Install more RAM (4GB might not be enough for scores with many staves);

4. If all else fails, use the "Sibelius 7 Sounds (Lite)" configuration.

Robin has really hit all the bases--esp the 4 GB RAM one..

usually the lowest suggested on this forum is 8 GB, and even that will have problems with larger scores.

Also using an SSD will help.

Thanks Bob

I've got an SSD, I'll try upgrading to 8 GB RAM. I have a windows partition, if I install this on my windows end is it possible it will function? Thanks for the help.

Actually scratch all of that! The Bass Clarinet patch fixed it! Weird... Thanks again.

7.5 for large orchestral scores is rubbish on mac OS X snow leopard... some instruments don't sound, others choose now and then to... tried fixing with bass clari patch; tried LITE- still rubbish. Very disappointed.

Just be sure your windows partition is later than xp.

The first check I would make is to confirm (a) that the Sibelius 7 Sounds library is fully installed, and (b) that the Bass Clarinet patch is indeed correctly installed.

In the Finder:
- pull down the Go menu and select "Goto folder";
- in the box, type /Library with the leading stroke;
- from Library, open folder "Application Support";
- from "Application Support", open folder "Avid";
- from "Avid", open folder "Sibelius Sounds";
- in "Sibelius Sounds", select the folder "Sibelius 7 Sounds", and do "Get Info" (Command-i);
- take a screen-shot of this "Get Info" panel and attach it in your reply;
- now open folder "Sibelius 7 Sounds";
- from "Sibelius 7 Sounds", open folder "Wind";
- in "Wind", select the file "Bass Clarinet Portato MW.patch" and do "Get Info" (Command-i);
- take a screen-shot of this "Get Info" panel and attach it in your reply.

Who told you that?

One further question: in Mac OS Snow Leopard, is Sibelius 7.5 launching as a 32-bit application, or as a 64-bit application?
