Sib. 7.5: Automated Mixer Faders
Posted by Owen Burdick - 10 Jan 05:25PM
Anybody know any way to automate the faders in the 7.5 version of Sib? Yes, Sibelius does an okay job of following hairpins and expression marks and the like, especially if you customize the playback library—I'm aware of that. And yes, you can also insert copious numbers of ~C7,XX commands into the individual parts as well (although the Sibelius mixer's faders seem to completely ignore these!).

What I'm talking about—as with most any sequencer—is being able to "touch" or "latch" or "overwrite" to the various and individual faders—and have Sibelius be able to record, edit and playback this data.

I know, I know, "Sibelius is NOT a sequencer." Okay. You win. It's not a sequencer.

Now...can anybody answer my question? ;-) Many thanks!

As you said yourself - Sibelius is NOT a sequencer. Expecting any but the most basic automation of anything is unrealistic. If you want to do this get a sequencer like Cubase or Logic.

To be pedantic, *dynamics* (what dynamic markings, midi controller changes, hairpins, etc) control is very different from *volume*, which the faders control. You can have a piano banging away at fff but drop the fader down to make it quieter.... but that is a VERY different sound than a piano playing a p dynamic with the slider full open.

Hello Sibelius users. You might want to check out this new plugin I released last week, called "Graphical MIDI Tools" which aids in this matter. It adds certain graphical MIDI editing capabilities to the program. Amnong its features, it includes:
- A graphical CC/Pitch bend automation module
- A graphical velocity editor
- A mini piano roll

The plugin's official site is:

http://www.santiagobarx.com/gmt/

And here is a complete review and analysis at ScoringNotes.com:

Thanks and best regards!
