I recently purchased a new iMac and migrated my old macbook to the new desktop. When opening Sibelius on the new computer I receive the following message.
My issue is that I cannot locate this file. I am a music teacher and use Sibelius on a daily basis. I'd love to solve this ASAP so I can start writing/editing scores on my new iMac.
" There was an error initializing licensing engine. This often happens if you have migrated data from another computer. Please delete the following folder, then restart Sibelius 7: /Library/ApplicationSupport/Avid/Licenses/Sibelius"
Heres some directions to get to that folder, fom an Avid Knowledge Base article:
"Mac
Quit Sibelius completely
Bring the Finder application into focus, by clicking its icon in the dock.
Click Go in the menu bar, and click Go to Folder in the drop-down menu.
Type in /Library and click OK.
The Global Library folder will open in a new window, go to /Library/Application Support/Avid/Licenses
Delete the Sibelius folder
Now try starting Sibelius again, and you should now be able to activate
If you find that you're still experiencing problems, please try repairing disk permissions as described here"
Thanks Bob

Bumping this one up, as this fix doesn't seem to function in my case. I just purchased a new iMac, which obviously comes with the latest operating system, Mac OS Sierra. Not knowing about the migration problems with Sibelius, I moved the application (but only the application) using Migration Assistant and now I'm getting an error saying there was a problem with initialising the license engine, which tells me to remove the Avid/Licenses/Sibelius folder. The only problem I'm running into there is that I don't even have such a folder. The only thing in the Avid folder is the Sibelius 7.5 folder, which is empty.
Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Quick feedback is greatly appreciated, I need Sibelius on a regular basis and this problem as put me in a bit of a pinch.

Possibly you are looking in the wrong place. The place you need to look is the System Library. Probably you have been mistakenly looking in the User Library.
For instructions on opening the System Library, see the post timed 21 Dec 20:57 above in this thread.
The other alternative is that, if you migrated only the Sibelius application, you failed to migrate Avid License Control.

Sibelius 8.4/7.5.1/7.1.3/6.2/5.2.5, PhotoScore Ult 8.0.4, Dolet 6.6 for Sibelius, Windows 10 64-bit 16GB. Desktop no-name, Microsoft Surface Book.
That's it - I'm aware of the difference between the libraries, but for some reason, I'd been repeatedly taking myself into the user library, thinking that it was the system library.
I recently migrated files from one iMac to another, both using OS Catalina, and Sibelius 7 is now no longer working. When I followed your directions above, I got an error message: "Sibelius 7 cannot be activated now. Please try again. If this problem persists, contact technical support." Unfortunately, I need to access a Sibelius file now and cannot afford to wait on the off-chance that it will suddenly work sometime in the future. What should I do?
> I recently migrated files from one iMac to another, both using OS Catalina, and Sibelius 7 is now no longer working.
Sibelius 7 is too old to be activated under macOS Catalina, because the "Avid License Control" application is 32-bit code, which is not supported under Catalina. There is no fix or workaround for this: this is the end of the road for Sibelius 7.
If you wish to continue using Sibelius 7, then do not upgrade macOS to Catalina.
Catalina requires version 2019.9 or higher of Sibelius Ultimate for the similar level of feature offering to what you had with Sibelius 7.
