Sib. 7.5: How to turn off pre-roll?
Posted by TimB - 10 Dec 01:04PM
I've recently started using 7.5 after "upgrading" from 6.2.

How do I remove the pre-roll that now happens before the start of a piece?

i.e. I press play, and Sibelius starts from -0.9 seconds, not from 0.0 seconds which is when I want it to start. This is quite irritating when working with a video.

For example I have a video that I need to start at 6 seconds in, so I use the "Timecode" window to set that. However the pre-roll shows ~1s of video before the start-point that I want and the transport has negative milliseconds counting up to 0, which is when the score starts playback. This is both time-wasting and potentially misleading as I need to start the music precisely at 6 seconds into the video.

Thanks!
Tim.

This is an older post that talks about the pre roll:

Did it also happen in Sib 6.2?

Thanks Bob

Hi Bob,

Come to think of it, yes, this did happen in 6.2, but normally I score from the start of the video.

I noticed that 6.2 was pretty unreliable in synchronisation terms which is one reason that I've gone to 7.5, in the hope that Avid (of all companies!) might be able to get Sibelius a little tighter.

What I mainly do, anyway, is to get it as good as possible in Sibelius then I export a MIDI file which I work on in much more detail in ProTools (detailed work with sample libraries etc, not on the notes, usually). It's in Pro Tools that I notice that what was a perfect hit on a hit-point in Sibelius is no longer a perfect hit once the much tighter timecode of Pro Tools is used. Normally this isn't a problem so long as I only work in relatively small chunks of music!

It sounds from the post you've kindly linked, anyway, that this "pre-roll" can't be turned off and must be lived with. What a shame.

Tim

Hi Tim--

You're welcome:)

And you might check out:

To see if this problem is there, and vote on it, or start a new bug report/feature request about it.

Thanks Bob
