Sib. 6.x: XML post import / spaghetti systems!!
Posted by William Bohn - 09 Dec 03:57AM
Hi there,
I've imported an XML file of a tune from a colleague (a Finale user). He added a 4 part vocal harmony to my tune & sent it back to me. When opening it - a pop up window indicated that since my 6.2 is dated - it may be imported with some elements missing.( I'm paraphrasing). Eager to open the file, I clicked "OK". It came to me looking like a disaster. I tried LAYOUT>FORMAT> MAKE INTO SYSTEMS - no luck.
Tried MAKE INTO PAGE > no luck. I tried moving & trying hard to separate that "spaghetti" to reasonable looking
sheet music- no luck.
What can I do??

Thanks for any tips!

Dan

Hi Dan--

Maybe take and attach a screen grab or two of this "spaghetti" so it can help troubleshooting this:)

Thanks Bob

Hi Dan--

Youre welcome, Dan:)

Are you on a Mac or PC?

Mac:

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201361

Windows:

http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Screenshot-in-Microsoft-Windows

(Ive heard the snipping tool most mentioned on this forum)

Thanks Bob

PS You could also attach the score, for someone to help with but I dont know if that ok with someone else--your friend-- being involved.

PS Also screen grabs should be png or jpg format, no larger than 900k.

Multiple grabs can be put on the same post by editing the post, and adding one attachment per each edit, adding them in the same way the first attachment was done.

Thanks Bob

William, you could also try to unlock the score:
1) select all
2.) unlock score
That would be sort of the opposite of make into page or make into system.

Thank you both - Bob & kbundies. I went to UNLOCK Score & it helped a lot!
I still had to move things manually, but it sure made it much more 'appealing". Question: it's ALMOST perfect BUT - I got 1 system per page - 8 staves total. Bottom 4 staves for a 4 part vocal harmonies. Above EACH of those bottom staves - the chord symbols appear. I already got those above the top staff(melody). Short of removing them one by one (hassle) - isn't there a way to get rid of them in one click of a button or close to it?

Thanks!! You guys are great!

Dan

Thanks Dan--you're welcome for y part:)

Select ths bottom four staves and try Edit Menu>Filter>Chord symbols and Delete.

Does that work for you?

Thanks Bob
