Sib. 7.5: XSample

Has anyone any experience of this? I'd never heard of it until it was mentioned in the Sibelius Blog in 'what to buy for Christmas'. Curious, I went to the site (http://www.xsample.de/) and listened/looked at the examples. It looks and sounds very interesting for chamber music, not least because of all different articulations and the wide range of percussion (not sure that many of them quite fit in the chamber music category!). It comes with a sound set and so all you have to do is enter text for the articulations.

I've used NotePerformer for a while now and it's very impressive, but mostly for larger ensembles since, to be fair, that's what it's made for, but I find it less convincing for chamber ensembles.

What is also (potentially) attractive about XSample is the current price - reduced from 599 euros to 189 (about £150). No - this isn't an advert, I have no connection with the company, but before I part with any cash I wondered if anyone had any experience of it (a search in this forum produced nothing).

I actually wrote a review of XCE and posted it here:

http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=525614&groupid=3&words=XSample&name=Morabito

and here are some posts about it:

http://www.musicprep.com/sibelius/search-results.shtml?cx=partner-pub-3098077480802761%3A92v9da97z0e&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=XSample&sa=Search+Sibelius+Sites

I like it very much, especially with the new price break, and it works very well with Sib (Or Finale) as it comes with soundsets for each.

Also Hans Joseph Winkler and George Stahl, who created the library, are really excellent in support and very nice guys!

Thanks Bob

I would also suggest you try the sounds yourself before purchasing.

This http://www.try-sound.com/ looks to be a really good site for trying out sound libraries before buying,

Bob - very many thanks for all that info. When I said I'd tried searching this forum and not getting any results, I'd used XSampler rather than XSample! I'd seen your review on the XSampler site and every mention I can find via Google gives very positive results. I've checked it out as far as I can and I think it fits what I need perfectly - and at the current price it looks like an even stronger reason to take the plunge. So I will!

And I'll report back...

Thanks

Andrew

You're very welcome Andrew--in my opinion its a GREAT sound library, and at that reduced price, and the service you get, its really an EXCELLENT deal:)

Njoy--and dont forget that try-sound site.

Thanks Bob
