hi Folks
I have fairly suddenly started getting a crash in Sibelius. I can be doing almost anything ie scrolling the page, adding text, adding notes etc.
Here is the information when the crash happens.Any help please?

If you create a new user account with administrative privileges then log in to that new account, and try Sibelius--does Sibelius stop crashing?


Have you added any new programs around the time the crashing started in Sib?

Does the Sibelius crash occur in all scores, or is it limited to just one score?

I believe this is how its done--I took it from part an old post, by Robin, and if any Window users see a problem with it, please chime in:

Use control panel "User Accounts" to create a new Windows account with Administrator privileges and a username which is a single word of alphanumeric characters only. Then log out of your normal account and log in to that new account

and see if Sibelius still crashes.

Unfortunately this isnt possible in windows 8 as it expects an email address to log in so I cannot create a simple user name. I guess the only change I have made since installing sibelius is winsdows 8.1 update.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it last night but no change

On Windows 8/8.1, when creating a new account, click the option: "Sign in without a Microsoft account (not recommended)" to create local accounts on Windows without an e-mail address.

Have any third-party fonts been added to this Windows system?

At the bottom of the Create New User page you're offered "Sign in without a Microsoft Account (not recommended)".


A simple uninstall doesn't remove everything. You could go through User and Registry settings expunging all traces of Sibelius. In fact, if simply running Sibelius from a new User Account solves your problem, this is what we might recommend, assuming you don't want to move EVERYTHING across to the new User. So try that first.

Try Control Panel/User Accounts/Manage another account, and create another account from there. All you need is a user name and password. Then you would have to log into your regular account and switch to the new one. It might be a little different for you because my 8.1 is not on a commercial computer, but rather one I built. I don't have a Microsoft account or email on this(my Sibelius) computer.

I ran into a similar situation where it would crash like that every time I would hit Play. I managed to figure out which registry was causing the problem and fixed it.
