Sib. 7.1.3: There was a problem will file permissions
Posted by Gilly F - 30 Oct 05:33PM
Deactivated Sibelius before clean install of Yosemite. Now can't open Sibelius. Message is There was a problem will file permissions.

Rang Tech help who suggested Gatekeeper problem (not that) and changing file permissions in /Library/Avid - but don't have that folder.

Be grateful for any suggestions.

I bet you do. Look in EXACTLY the file path they told you to. (Is there any possible obstacle with hidden folders, Mac experts?)

You should do Disk Utiility>Repair Permissions..

>Rang Tech help who suggested Gatekeeper problem (not that) and changing file permissions in /Library/Avid - but don't have that folder.

There are two--pleases see attachments

I the the path he meant was Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Avid, but by doing Repair Permissions for the whole disk, your covered on both.

Thanks Bob

There you are. Mac people need to know this stuff. PCs generally just work.

(I'm not altogether joking, from what I see and hear recently...)

There is also an off chance he doesnt--if so, then

In the Finder, choose Go > Go To Folder and type ~/Library/Application Support, then click Go.
If there is a folder called Avid in this location, double-click it to go inside it; if not, create one (choose File > New Folder), then go inside it.
You should see a folder called Sibelius 7: if so, ok ; if not, create one, same technique as above.

Thanks Bob

Thanks for responses. I should have said that I'd found the Avid folder in my Home directory and ticked Apply to enclosed items for Read & Write permissions on that and on The Sibelius 7 folder. Have also repaired permissions. Still no joy.

I've got a file called Avid_Downloader_Mac.app - hoping that's my Sib.7 installer & I could reinstall. Any thoughts?

Thanks

If you were to reinstall--and I wouldnt, Id wait for more responses to this thread before doing so, Id go to

account.avid.com and sign in and download from there--"My Products". Make sure its Sib 7.1.3

Thanks Bob

PS And although you said you spoke with tech support, Id call them back and tell them it didnt help, or you might try contacting the Avid registration support team. Please complete the form here:

http://avid.force.com/Support/RegistrationCaseCreation

or here

http://www.sibelius.com/documents/contact_form.html

Hope this helps.

OK - I took the plunge - and followed Avid instructions for downloading & installing the full installer (luckily knew where to find my activation key). All is well. Sibelius is up and running on the fresh install of Yosemite on 2nd Mac.

Thanks for your interest.

issue - cannot register sibelius after clean install of yosemite. sibelius 7.1.3 quits unexpected.

SIMPLE SOLUTION which worked for me PERFECTLY:

install sibelius like ususal you do
quit sibelius
find with spotlight an app called AvidLicenseControl and launch it
fill in all the data and press register
after that sibelius works as expected

good luck

Thank you Mindaugus! That worked perfectly for me too.

I have been struggling since the end of October with non-working Sibelius 7.5.1 on new Mac with Yosemite, going around in circles with Avid/Sibelius technical support for a couple of weeks without getting anywhere.

For me Sibelius got as far as the register (or continue trial) dialog box, but then whatever I selected it crashed as soon as I tried to continue into Sibelius proper.

Activating via "AvidLicenseControl" resolved it for me. I've just upgraded from earlier version so the most difficult bit of this was finding my System ID and Activation ID via my online account details at avid.com, but having done that it is working!!

It is a great relief to finally be back up and running with Sibelius.

Thank you for posting the tip.

Regards
Colin
