I want the highlighting of several bars to be visible in the printed copy of musical exercises I am working on. Based on a previous posting on this forum I have checked "View options" in the Print dialogue in order to print Highlights. However, all my highlighted bars appear totally black so that any notes and rests are unreadable. Is there a way to print a lighter highlight that allows one to still see the musical content?

I found this Sib 7 thread which sounds like your problem, but theres no resolution--ie no posts stating that the OP followed Daniel's suggestion, to trash the Sib 7 preferences file, and what the results were..

Do you have the latest drivers for your printer?

PS Im not sure what settings, if any, one would lose deleting those preferences/

Thanks for your help, Bob. I will have to consider whether I am comfortable deleting Sibelius preferences and will also check to see if my printer driver is up-to-date. If something works out, I will add a further response to this thread so the information is available for others who are having the same difficulty.

Have you selected the option to print in colour?

Thanks, Robin. I understand Macs on OS X automatically print in color but this is still the cause of my problem as I discovered my printer is black and white only. Still, I often shade parts of a spreadsheet on a different program and too quickly assumed I could do something similar using the same hardware with Sibelius. Perhaps Santa will leave a color printer under the tree at Xmas!

Check the printer settings in "Use OS dialog", to ensure that greyscale is selected instead of black-and-white.

Also check the settings in System Preferences for your printer, via the Options & Supplies button.

Check that the Mac OS printer driver for your model of printer is up to date.

Thanks, Robin. I downloaded and installed the latest driver and also tried different printer settings in "Use OS dialog". I found no choice between greyscale and black and while but did try the available settings for Photo, Graphics and Chart/Graph although all were unfortunately unsuccessful.
