Sib. 7.5: multi-rests
Posted by Ole Bollom - 25 Oct 01:21PM
When I click for multi-rests in the eight bars in the beginning of the drum part (slagverk), it comes up as 7+1. How can I make it 8?

The barline between bar 9 and bar 10 is not a default barline: it is a "normal special barline", which has been put there during previous editing.

Select the barline between bar 9 and bar 10, and press "Delete": this will restore the default barline. Then multi-rests will work.

Maybe a good time to remind everyone that a special barline (double, repeat etc.) is NOT cancelled by overlaying a "Normal" barline. You just need to select and delete it.

Yeah, I wish Sibelius would just treat a "special normal" barline like a normal barline. It is a pain.

I even wrote a plugin (Delete Special Normal Barlines, category Layout) to hunt them down and destroy them.

Once in a while they serve a useful purpose, like when trying to deal with instrument changes that cause a key signature in one staff only, and have a corresponding dynamic part. The special normal barline can be moved in a way that an ordinary barline cannot be.

Yes, oddities are generally there for a reason!

I think the mistake was calling it a "Normal" bar line when it inhabits the group of "Special" bar lines.
