Sib. 7.1.3: Open a score without loading sounds
Posted by Gwyn Williams - 23 Oct 06:57PM (edited 23 Oct 07:04PM)
Hello everyone.

Is it possible to open a score but without loading the sounds? I simply want to edit the text within the score and don't require the sounds or playback facility to do this. It'd save on resources.

You can cancel out of loading sounds. Then, as long as you don't press Play, you should be OK. Change the Playback Device to GM, Wavetable Synth, or something that doesn't load samples, Sounds won't try to load next time you open it. If that's what you want.

That's exactly what I'm after. Thanks Lawrence.

Another way:
If you create a playback configuration with all devices de-activated, then choose this as the default in:

Preferences>Playback - Default Playback.

Any playback configuration you load during a session will be saved with the file so you will offered this when you next open that file.

Usually I do want a playback configuration loaded but as I use several different ones for me it's quicker to say 'Yes' to the alert than to wait for unwanted sounds to load.

These are all rather complicated solutions to a very simple problem! If you don't want to wait for the Sounds to load, there's a Cancel button. Press it.
