If you want exactly what you asked for, strange though it be, I think not.

But you can have a different clef in the Part to the one in the Full Score. Or there's the Copy & Change Instrument function in the Parts tab, for creating alternate Parts from the same stave in the score.

Yes, you can. Goto Notations/Common/Clef/More Options. In the LH column, choose treble. In the RH column, check 'Transposed clef' and choose alto (that's the one with C on the middle line). But may I be so bold as to ask why you need this?

PS. You can skip the laboured clef gallery by going to Preferences/Kbd-shortcuts/Notations-tab/Show-clef-dialog and give it the key-press "Q". This takes you directly to 'More Options' which is free from clutter and has everything you need in just one panel.

Coo, so you can! I suppose I see the point for an instrument that transposes by several octaves.

I'm not used to read / write in alto Clef so when I compose/arrange for eg string quartet, I enter music in concert score and get the altopart automatically with the correct clef.

Fair enough, Thomas. In my early days as a hand copyist, I came across many scores in which the viola parts were written in treble clef because the arrangers either didn't understand alto or were too lazy to try. I've even seen string scores which have no violas, just violins and 'celli. Makes me wonder about the composers' skill. To me, a string section with no violas has no soul or warmth. As an arranger-composer, it didn't take me long at all to be able to think in alto clef. I recommend the initial toil.

It sounds as if all you need to do is compose with the viola line set to treble (or bass?) clef, when the piece is complete, press Q and insert the correct clef.

So long as you don't forget what you've done ;-)
