The plugin was written by Gunnar Hellquist.

Pls see this thread--you can click on his name on that post to send him an email...maybe it'll help.

1. From a brief look at the code, It should run in Sib 7, though you cannot use the Sib 7 plugin installer for it. You can download it, unzip it,and store in an appropriate user plugin folder.

2. It only works on text objects, so it will work with legacy chord symbols, but not the Chord Symbol objects that have been in place since Sib 6 as the default chord symbols.

3 It was my impression that the new chord symbols adapt to German spelling if you are running German Sibelius, so you should not need the plugin. Is that not the case?

I used with Sibelius 3 the "French Chord Names" plugin. I contacted Tim Watson, who wrote the "French Chord Names" plugin for an update and he told me that he no longer uses Sibelius for long time. He told me that the "French chord Names" plugin has adapted from the "German Chord Names" plugin. So I thought that doing an update to the "German Chord Names" plugin, I could fit in "French Chord Names" plugin.

Again, if you are Running Sibelius in French, do you get what you want just with Sibelius, or does the French version need Do Re Mi?

You can install the German version and it will run in 7.5, but it will only work on Legacy (text) chord symbols. If the French plugin is based on the German one it may well work in 7.5 for text chord symbols.

You can, for example, run the Convert Legacy Chord Symbols plugin to change Chord Symbol objects to Text objects, then run the French/German plugin.

My guess is that is what you will need to do, and you will have to leave the chord symbols as text objects (Legacy Chord Symbols), because I doubt Sibelius will allow you to create chord symbols, at least when running in English, that use non-English names.

So you might try hand-installing the plugin(s) (http://www.sibelius.com/download/plugins/index.html?help=install) and see if they work within those constraints. If so, we can probably at least set them up to be installed in Sib 7, with warnings that they will only work on text chord symbols.

And can any French or German Sibelius user confirm whether Sibelius let you enter German/French chord names in chord symbols while running Sibelius 7.x in that language?

Thank you very much! Now it works! I apologize, I did not understand that before using "French Chord Names" plugin I had to use the "Legacy Chord Symbols" plugin.

Again, thank you very much!

Glad it worked for you.

The German/French plugins were written before the chord symbol implementation changed in Sibelius 6, so they are blissfully unaware that such Chord Symbol objects exist. So they only expect Text chord symbols, and fortunately, Create Legacy Chord Symbols will usually create them for you.

If the plugin works for you using Legacy chord symbols, I can talked to the Avid folk about marking these as suitable for Sib 7, (with a warning about legacy chord use),and they should then be installable with the Sib 7 plugin installer.

There was a small problem when I used the "Chord Symbols As Fractions," which I then fixed. The procedure to do is: first use "Convert Legacy Chord Symbols" after use "French Chord Names" and after that "Chord Symbols As Fractions." If you do not do this procedure, when the Chord Symbols turns into "Chord Symbols As Fractions", using the option "Font underlining", do not put the underlining. For the rest it is fine. I do not know if I explained well. I live in Italy. The English do not know well.

Thanks

Please see

http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=663023&groupid=3&

It explains that you can change the language used for chord symbols in Engraving Rules > Chord Symbols in Sibelius 6 or later.

This is really a better way to get chord symbols in the language of your choice, and it does not require legacy chord symbols.
