Bass Saxophone will not play notes below D2 on stave.

Instrument is correctly set for notes range and transposition.
i.e. blue notes, light red, and dark red are assigned per the instrument range.

If I change the playback default instrument to baritone saxophone the most of the notes sound correctly apart from lowest notes that are below the range of the baritone saxophone. This seems to indicate the sound file is corrupt?

I have run Sibelius7SoundsUpdate712.exe and this has not helped.

Is there a means of just reinstalling the bass saxophone sounds?

Any other ideas?

There are no Bass Saxophone samples in the Sibelius 7 Sounds library. If you attempt to play that instrument, you will hear what Sibelius considers to be the next nearest match (Alto Sax).

You can change to Baritone Sax in the Mixer, but you will still hear only the range of notes of the Baritone Sax. There is no way with the Sibelius 7 Sounds sample library to hear the extended bass sounds of the Bass Sax. If you want those sounds, you will need to install a sample library (and player) that supports the Bass Sax instrument.

If you are running Sibelius 7.5 (as your thread title indicates), then this was a mistake. To repair the damage, run the Sibelius 7.5 Sounds updater (even if you have run it before in the past).

You might also need to re-install the Bass Clarinet patch.

ALso note that these settings have no effect on playback. The note colours are merely cautionary indications that you're stretching or exceeding an instrument's comfortable or absolute range.

You could maybe go to the Mixer and assign a Tuba sound. It won't be quite the right tone colour, but the notes will play.

Thanks for the comments - I re-ran the bassclarinet portato patch and ran the 7.5 sounds installer.

I am somewhat confused with the comments on the bass saxophone.

I've attached the instrument setup and under the playback default there is the option to select any instrument including the bass saxophone?

I understand the sampling re the alto saz and range extensions of that but not why bass sax misses so many notes (contra bass saz is exactly the same!)

The SoundWorld system lists a plethora of instrument definitions, and "best sound" choices. But it's wishful thinking, that can only be satisfied if the sound set you're using HAS that instrument. If not, it falls back to the nearest available equivalent.

It's a bit odd that Sibelius thinks Alto Sax (rather than Baritone Sax, which WILL be in most sound sets) is the best fit for Bass Sax. But if this is so (I haven't tested) you'll just have to make a better substitution.

The notes are missing on playback because there are no bass sax samples and baritone sax does not have the downward range of bass sax. You could use GM playback for bari sax which has no range restriction.

Yes, Sibelius, the music engraving application, can specify a staff to be for a Bass Sax, but Sibelius 7 Sounds (the sample library you are using for playback) does not have any samples for a Bass Sax. No one sample library has all the sounds that Sibelius (the music engraving application) could possibly specify, and Sibelius does not limit itself to being able to specify only the sounds in currently available sample libraries.
