Hello, When creating string parts I like to have the part split into multiple staves to clarify divisi writing (it cuts down on rehearsal time I find). I did do this a couple years ago, but I can't remember if I had to extract the part first to add the additional staff in the string part or maybe I did something like create an ossia staff that I enlarged that only appeared in the part not the score. What would be the best way? If I have to extract the part not ideal as there may be last-minute changes. Thanks again, John

I guess I'll have to extract the wind and brass parts to separate flutes 1 and 2 anyway so same thing. Just have to do it last minute? Is that true? Thanks again. John

Create all the staves you will ever need in the full score. If this means having four Violin 1 staves - one with all the notes for the score, three separate ones for the Parts - so be it. The extra ones can be hidden from the final score with Focus On Staves, or by setting their content to "Show in Parts" (i.e. not in score) so that Hide Empty Staves works on them. Create a Violin 1 Part containing the three separate staves.

If you've been meticulous about scoring the divisi in three separate voices, you may be able to automate the split onto three staves. Otherwise, just do it manually, using whatever copy/paste/filter etc. shortcuts you can devise.

Thanks Laurence. This is very helpful. Hopefully it won't change the spacing too much in the full score. I haven't attached a file because librettist is in the process of publishing parts of the libretto with a publisher as a book of poetry and she worries that they are not comfortable having it out there until the book is out. Doesn't it become available to anyone when I attach the file?
