Sib. 7.5: Sound Set for East-West Choir
Posted by Tonepainter - 11 Oct 04:48PM (edited 11 Oct 04:49PM)
Greetings,

Just purchased Sibelius 7.5.1, first time Sibelius user.

I'm considering different choir-samples software, have narrowed down decision to 3 choices. My questions are about the Sibelius Sound Set for the East West Choir: How reliably does it work? Most of all, is entering text into the score a substitute for having to deal with the EW's word builder?

I couldn't find answers to these questions when performing forum keyword searches and didn't find any reviews for the Sibelius sound sets for EW choirs.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice.

East West Choirs is a great sample library. However, I have found Wordbuilder to be too much trouble to implement, being far too slow to enter.
I just load ah, oo and ee sounds and this is adequate for my purposes (mock-ups for clients etc.)

Thanks very much, that's helpful. I'm fine working with oohs/ahs if it comes to that.
So when you enter words for choral parts in Sibelius, the words do not get pronounced on playback through East/West Choirs, correct?

Last questions, about software compatibility:
For creation of mock-ups, I use Vienna Symphonic Library which I know can be calibrated for use with Sibelius. When considering software for choral mock-ups, does it make more sense to have Vienna Choir if already dealing with VSL? Another words, if I chose East-West choirs, would this place a bigger burden on Sibelius (and processor power) to deal with both VSL and East West, instead of just dealing with VSL alone with Vienna Choir? Or does it not make any difference in terms how much computer resources are used?

Am using iMac, 10.7.5, 2.7 GHz intel core i5, 16 GB RAM, 2 external G-drives.

The EW Choir is pretty resource intensive and uses a whole MIDI port for each voice section; I can't comment on the VSL, but it's probably less since it's just straight sample playback.
