Sib. 7.5: How to inspect Sound IDs?
Posted by Frank Wilhoit - 27 Sep 08:10PM
Sibelius 7.5.1, Windows 8.1 x64, NotePerformer 1.3.3

I want to be able to see what sound IDs Sibelius is assigning, or trying to assign, to individual notes.

I have a very odd problem with sound IDs seemingly not changing until one note after the issuance of a directly contradictory sound ID (e.g. legato and staccato). One of the oddest things about this problem is that it only affects clarinets, nothing else in the orchestra (2222 4330 timp. strings).

When I say "one note after", I really mean The Next Note, even if many bars' rest have intervened. So if I have clarinets staccato in (say) bar 9, then rest until bar 34, then the first two clarinet notes in 34 are slurred, the first note in 34 will be played staccato; or if the first note in 34 is *neither* slurred nor staccato-dotted, then the 2d and 3d notes in 34 are slurred, the first and 2d notes in 34 will be played staccato.

And, again, this only affects the clarinets.

Since I am using NotePerformer, you will of course tell me that this is Wallander's problem, but I want to be able to prove it to him: so how can I inspect what Sibelius thinks the sound IDs are?

Thanks,
FW

Sib >File Preferences>Playback >Display> Sound ID"s

Then mouse over in the mixer to see the Sound ID.

Pls see attachments

Thanks Bob

Thanks for the quick reply. My browser will not let me view or download your attachments. It appears that this does not work statically, but only during playback, at which point, unfortunately, things are happening WAY too fast to see by this method.

I worked around my problem by putting in a few hidden forced sound ID changes that should not have been necessary -- i.e. one slurred phrase plays back correctly if I put the word "legato" in technique text on its first note, but wrongly if that text is deleted (yes, I tried deleting and re-entering the slur, and then the whole passage). At least this works; I don't argue with results and I only had to fix a few places. I'm tentatively going to put it down to leftover cruft from MusicXML import. Maybe it's a NotePerformer thing, but without much better evidence, I can't wave it under his nose.

Thanks again,
FW
