Sib. 7.5: Changing volumes on playback
Posted by RoyD - 22 Sep 12:28AM
I am a relatively new user to Sibelius and having scanned in a copy of John Rutter's Angels' Carol, on playback I am getting increased "sound volumes" during longer notes and some reduced volumes on other notes. there are no other markers after, for example, an initial "mf" to alter "volumes".

Can anyone please tell me how to resolve this without eating the manual ....

Play Tab> Interpretation> Performance> Style> Espressivo> try the Meccanico setting

Thanks Bob

You're welcome:)

Pls attach the Sib score that demonstrates this problem.

Thanks Bob

Hi Bob,

I have attached a copy of the sib file with this issue. In the attached the Sop 1 volume is lowered so that the Sop 2/Alto line is prominent.

Thanks
Roy

HI Roy--

The piece did have Espressivo on (Espressivo 2) and also had other dynamics later in the piece.

However even setting it to Meccanico, with headphones on I can hear what you're talking about--though, sorry I dont know whats causing it.

The effect can be heard even more when the voices are panned center.

Thanks Bob

Thanks for looking at it Bob, I had already tried all the dynamic settings including Meccanico with no effect.

Anyone else got any ideas please?

Thanks,
Roy

Have any hidden MIDI control messages - CC11 or CC7 - or velocity messages crept their way into the score when it was scanned and imported?

Thanks for this suggestion Andy.

I imported a pdf file from the net that looked identical to my printed score, seemed easier at the time - not so sure now. How would I check for these two possibilities?

Incidentally, I have updated to v7.5.1 today and this did not fix it.

View tab >Invisibles>check Hidden objects

I checked for these, among other stuff when I looked the piece over before...seems long sustained notes cresc, and the immediate following notes are lower...

Thanks Bob

I agree with your analysis Bob and I have duplicated this by entering the first sequence of notes from bar 3 in a new score with the same results. It seems that whatever is at fault is within my basic Sibelius setup and not just the score ...

Thanks,
Roy
