Hi is there a way to find a certain sequence of rests in a score, say 3 consecutive quarter rests, and convert them into a half rest and a quarter rest globally?

Not really the answer, but perhaps something to consider: in 6/8 Sibelius spells three consecutive 8th rests as a quarter rest and an 8th rest. But in 6/4 it prefers three consecutive quarter rests and not half rest and quarter.

Hi

Don't know if this helps. (Wim is really way more knowledgeable on this stuff than I am).

Try the Combine Tied Notes and Rests Plugins (Note Input/Simplify Notation/Combine Tied Notes and Rests)

Your results will vary according to your time signature. In the attached example, a full bar of quarter note rests in 4/4 and 3/4 will be simplified to a whole bar rest. But, if you have an actual quarter note in the 4/4 bar, then the plugin will simplify as you you have requested.

hmm that almost does what i need it to do, however i'm working with 6/4 bars and i have the 8th note subdivision as 2,2,2,2,2,2 which i thought would work, but it combines the 3 quarter rests into a dotted half rest.

i guess from that point i can use the divide duration plugin and turn dotted half rests into half and quarter rests.

that should work fine, thanks!
