Hi!
When trying to make suffixes (numbers) in chord symbols on the baseline, ie not superscript, I go to Edit chord symbols/Edit suffix and tick the box "use baseline extension number". But nothing happens. Mark all chords and reset design doesn't work. Am I missing something here, or is this maybe a bug?
I'm on Wondows 8.1.
Or is there a more easy way to just change the whole writing style to non superscript globaly (without using non-music/non-chord font)?
Ok, thanks. That applies to writing, if I understand this right? I'm currently editing a lot of files with already existing chords... No way to change this wittout manual editing of each symbol? Also - there is this option, so why doesn't it work?
I've done that, as you can see i the 1st post. But thing is, since these files come from different computers, I suspect problems because of that. In one file this procedure actually worked just now, so it's there but not reliable.. That chord was undefined in the test style/font etc box, but could be changed. The bad thing is, if a write a chord symbol from scratch, even i a new file, this option is not working.
Has this something to do with W8.1??
BTW - thanks guys on this forum for quick replies;-)
I've been confused by this for a while - I have no answers, I'm afraid - sometimes, my extensions are on the baseline, sometimes, despite "override appearance", they sit doggedly in the air (and sometimes I want this). All I can add is that once you've selected override appearance, it seems you need to write the chord in again from scratch. Makes no sense to me!
> Thing is, since this regards mainly the "7" and other numbers, that the override option is not availble and all grey!
Reset Design - once more - makes the chord symbol appear according to settings. Changes in settings do not apply immediately to already created chord symbols, only after Reset Design.
Did you check 'Override appearance'?

Wim, I'm aware of that the reset design has to be done that way, but it's not changing anything. And the override option is not available, clickable, etc. It's all grey on the left hand side in the Edit suffix window when you mark for example no. 7 in the list. It's availble when editing a word suffix, but then the "use baseline extension number" is not available (which, I guess, is in order).
Wim, since you're on Mac, maybe it's working there and there are problems with PC?
Stephen, are you on PC?
Hi Anders, feel free to join a file so we can have a look. I suspect the Chord symbols in your file are Legacy Chord symbols. You can select all Chord Symbols and run the Text Plug-in Convert Legacy Chord Symbols.
OK, here's an example. The chord symbols above the top staff are "undefined", made by another user. The ones above the guitar staff is also made by the same other user, but is detected as "chord symbol". Mind, you can filter out ALL as chord symbols. If you reset design on the top staff, you will get the change according to the choice made in edit suffixes, but not in the guitar staff.
Thanks Robin. How can you see that? Where can I change to new-style in the guitar staff?
By undefined I meant that if you mark one chord on the vocal staff, then look under the text tab, there is no text style, font etc, just grey.
If you select an object, and then look in the status bar at the bottom of the Sibelius window, it will tell you the class of object selected. For instance:
- a selected new-style Chord Symbol shows "Edit Chord Symbol";
- a selected old-style Legacy Chord Text shows "Edit Text"
> Where can I change to new-style in the guitar staff?
There is a downloadable plug-in called "Convert Legacy Chord Symbols", in category "Chord Symbols" in the Sibelius 7 plug-in installation dialogue (tab File).

That is because you do not have a text object selected, so the Text tab has nothing to say.
