Sib. 7.1.3: Creating transposable Chord Chart only chords & Lyrics
Posted by Russell Henderson - 13 Sep 03:18PM
Hey all,
I'm trying to create a transposable chord chart with only chords & lyrics.

Any idea on how to do this?

I think I've figure out how to erase the staves, but I can't figure how to erase everything else.

Hi Russell,

For the Instrument you can use the 'No Instrument (hidden)' option.

Then create your notation, lyrics, and chord symbols, in the normal fashion.

Once all that's done, select all your notation, and run a 'Filter' for 'Top Notes or Single Notes'.
Keeping the results of the filter active,. . . then go ahead and 'Hide' the note heads.

You should be left with Chord Symbols and Lyrics only after this.

* If you wanted to see the barlines as well, then use the 'no instrument (barlines shown)' option instead.

- -

In this situation, you might find it easier to add in an additional staff which is visible – do your work on that, and Copy/Paste the finished results onto the 'no instrument (hidden)' stave.

. . . If so, keep this staff around permanently, you can hide it via the 'Focus on Staves' function, or by creating a New Part for the 'no instrument (hidden)' stave.

Keeping the 'View Hidden Objects' turned on will be helpful as well.

Hope this works out well for you,

Jim

Hi again,

I forgot to mention that you can adjust the gap between these two different text style, by going into the 'Default Positions' dialog and changing the setting for the 'vertical position relative to staff'. . . for the chosen text style.

Great, After I hide the notation, I still see it "grayed" out. How do I get rid of that?

In View turn off "Hidden Objects".

Also, you might find the plugin Hide Staves and Music (www.sibelius.com/download/plugins/index.html?plugin=496, category Layout) useful. It will hide staves and the music in staves, leaving the text alone.

There's no need to get rid of it. It will not print. If you really do not want to see it on the screen, then you can "Hide Invisibles", but that will hide every invisible object, not just these.
