After several attempts to install the Sibelius Sounds library on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine I cannot get any other option to show under \PLAY\Configure but "General MIDI". Status as of now is:
Registry:
HKLM\Software\Avid\Sibelius 7 First\Application Path\ - Value is "C:\Program Files\Avid\Sibelius 7 First\"
HKLM\Software\Avid\Sibelius Sounds\Sibelius 7 Sounds\Content Path - Value is "C:\Program Files\Avid\Sibelius Sounds\Sibelius 7 Sounds\"
On disk, the Sibelius First.exe that I'm executing is located where the registry (above) says it is and the Sibelius Sounds folder is where the registry says it is as well. Checking the contents of the Sibelius 7 Sounds folder I find several folders labeled "Brass", "Unpitched"... Each is populated with .patch and .big files. During a lengthy install, I know I loaded all four DVD's worth of sounds.
Shouldn't I be seeing another option when I enter the "Play" tab and click on "configure"? What am I doing wrong?

For Windows 64 bit the Sib 7 Sounds library I believe should be here:
Thanks for the quick reply!! The folder "Sibelius 7 Sounds" under C:\Program Files\Avid\Sibelius Sounds\ is 34.3 GB, 1,147 files, 18 folders. The folder "Sibelius 7 Sounds" under C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Sibelius 7 First\Sibelius Sounds\ is empty.
I just noticed that the string of folder names differs in these two instances. The non-x86 version has "Sibelius Sounds" directly under "Avid". The x86 string has "Sibelius Sounds" under "Sibelius 7 First" under "Avid".
I'm gathering from your note that I need to put the folders ("Brass", etc.) directly under this folder string:
I should also change the registry to point to this location.
If I get it working right, what should I see that will be different in the software's behavior? How do switch to using Sibelius Sounds instead of basic MIDI?
If my assumptions are wrong, please let me know, otherwise I'll rearrange the folders and registry entry accordingly.
OlyGuitar, do not attempt to move the sounds until we have seen the results of the enquiries in the next few posts.
Also, could you explain how the sounds came to be at the location:
"C:\Program Files\Avid\Sibelius Sounds\Sibelius 7 Sounds\"
which is not the default location for sounds installation on Windows 64-bit.
Was this a location that you specified manually, over-riding the default in the installer?

Sibelius 7.5.1/7.1.3/6.2/5.2.5, PhotoScore Ult 7.0.2, Dolet 6.3 for Sibelius, Windows 7 32-bit SP1, 4GB RAM
The title of this thread refers to Sibelius First. But you refer to installing four DVDs of Sounds: which would be the Sounds for the full Sibelius product, as the Sounds installation for First is smaller. The installed file sizes you quote are the sizes of the sounds for the full product, not for First.
So, are you trying to use Sibelius First to play the sounds library for the full product?

Thanks for your attention to this. I've excerpted portions of your three notes below denoted by "**"

I'm afraid I already moved them but I can put them back or wherever they should be.

I moved them manually. The text of the original post was brief in hopes of simplifying the request but it might be good to start at the beginning.
I had been using Sibelius 6 First. I purchased and downloaded Sibelius 7 First upgrade on Friday the 15th and downloaded the software via the web. I did not download the sounds which were listed on my web download account page at that time. I was able to register the upgrade and the software installed successfully on the first try.
Later that day I began a 12+ hour download of the sounds by clicking on the download link on my account web page. The download finally finished on Thursday morning the 16th. When I attempted to run the downloaded sounds file I got a message that the file was of an improper format and couldn't run.
After much searching for a way to contact Sibelius tech support I finally spotted my ASC number on my e Mail from them. When I called them I got routed through various menus and finally onto a message that the extension was unavailable, their mailbox was full and that I should hang up. Since I didn't want to go through another 12+ hour download I decided to purchase the disks (another US$45.00) instead. I was unaware that they might not be compatible with Sibelius 7 First.
The disks arrived on Thursday the 21st. After installing just the sounds from the disks they weren't visible in any of the dialogs in Sibelius 7 First software. I tried calling Sibelius tech support, only to get bounced out into the alley again. I then sent an e-Mail to tech support using my ASC on Friday morning the 22nd. Having received no answer on Friday evening I attempted a few things myself based on some posts in this forum. That's when I manually moved the files into a different folder and changed the registry to match.

**Please attach a screen-shot of Sibelius's dialogue windows:
**1. Playback Configuration;
**2. Audio Engine Options.
There are four .JPG files. The two labeled "General MIDI" are shots of the MIDI configuration and engine options as they came from the factory. In my attempts at solutions, I created another configuration that I called Sibelius 7 Sounds. I was unable to point it in any useful direction and couldn't figure out how to delete it so I changed it to another "General MIDI" as shown in the corresponding "Engine" .JPG. I hope these are helpful.

I guess the answer is yes. I was unaware that the disk version was different from the Sibelius 7 First version.
If there’s anything else I can provide, please let me know.
Terry, thanks for the back-story, which explains how you got where you are now.
> When I attempted to run the downloaded sounds file I got a message that the file was of an improper format and couldn't run.
Let's just double-check that. Right-click that downloaded file icon, select Properties, and look at its size. If it's over 6 GBytes, then it might be OK. The downloaded file should be a ZIP file. When you look at the file, does it appear to be of a ZIP type? Have you tried un-Zipping it to reveal the Sibelius 7 First Sounds installer inside?
If you are able to unzip and run the Sibelius 7 First Sounds installer, then you should be able to get Sibelius 7 First working with Sibelius 7 First sounds.
If that does not work, then you probably need to try that 6GB download again, and un-ZIP the result.
The actual reason you could not get the sounds working from the DVDs had nothing to do with their location on disk: it is that Sibelius 7 First does not automatically create a working Playback Configuration for Sibelius 7 Sounds (the full product) - it would have no reason to do so. It should recognise Sibelius 7 First Sounds when you have succeeded in installing it, and auto-create a working Playback Configuration, using Sibelius Player with the "Sibelius 7 First Sounds" soundset selected.

Sibelius 7.5.1/7.1.3/6.2/5.2.5, PhotoScore Ult 7.0.2, Dolet 6.3 for Sibelius, Windows 7 32-bit SP1, 4GB RAM
The first time I did the download, the file was 5.79GB at the end of the process. When I double clicked the file I got the message:
"Windows cannot process the folder. The compressed (zipped) folder ... is invalid.
Last night I started another download and it ran almost 12 hours and then quit this morning with the same message at 5.79GB. I happened to be watching prior to it's stopping and the details on the download said it had downloaded 5.5 of 6.3GB. Then it quit and displayed the above message.
Something is stopping the download, I guess. I couldn't find a way to resume and when I tried to start the download again from the web link, it began at the beginning. My C:\ Drive has 64GB of unused space so I don't think I'm running out of disk. Is there any way to obtain these files aside from downloads?
I suggest that you configure the PC's power options (control panel Power) to "never" for Sleep, and Hibernate, until you have finished the download.
If you are currently using a wireless connection from your home router, you might obtain better connectivity by making a wired ethernet connection to your home router.
You might consider using a different web browser for the download.
There doesn't appear to be a replacement disk option for Sibelius First at the Avid store.
I just downloaded the Sibelius 7 First Sounds installer file to check it out. The download took 16 minutes, peaking at about 80Mbps. It unzips OK. The caveat here is that your download might be coming from a different server in the global content delivery network. However, your downloader knew that it was supposed to be 6.3GB, so probably your server's copy is OK.
It is a little odd that your download cut out at about the same point both times: it makes me wonder whether there is some connection time-out or download volume cut-out in your home router or your ISP connection.

"Web Browser" - I could give Internet Explorer a go. I'm using Chrome right now.
"80Mbps" - I wish. Peak here is about 150Kbps. Maybe if I found a friend who had faster connectivity I could try using their ISP hookup and then just copy the files to bring home.
Anyhow, thanks for all your help and efforts. If/When I get the files loaded I'll complete this thread and let you know what happened.
> "Web Browser" - I could give Internet Explorer a go.
Internet Explorer 11, with Windows 7 also patched up to date, has a tweak to speed up downloads: it returns acknowledgements of packets received more promptly than usual for general two-way internet traffic.

Looks like the download succeeded on the fourth try. Three first tries were to my laptop and each time they stopped unexpectedly very close to the end. I tried the download to my desktop and it looks like it went to completion. File size is slightly larger than 6.34 * 1024**2. I'm copying the file to my laptop now and will try to unzip and install it next...
Holding my breath, the install seems to be going OK. Looks like this will go on a while so I'll post more in the morning.
It's working!! Thanks, Bob and Robin for your help. As a side note, I finally heard back from Sibelius tech support via e-mail (Their phone access is still inoperable) after three business. Needless to say they're now responding to ancient history. Judging from the number of posts on this thread, company tech support would have taken about 45 days to solve this. Software - A, Tech support - F. I've been in the computer business for over 40 years and seen many kinds of tech support. These guys are abysmal. Thank heaven for the forum.
