Sib. 7.5: Arpeggio placement and length
Posted by Pilotone Music - 19 Aug 09:52PM
I'm orchestrating a wonderful schmaltzy old standard that's got lots of harp arpeggios throughout many sections. (some piano and celeste as well) Is there a plug-in or some trick to get these aggressive arpeggios to keep their proper distance from the chords following them? Some do and some don't and so I've been expanding the bars of those that don't to make room for me to place them…..takes a loooong time. Magnetic Layout doesn't seem to kick in here. AND…..is there a plug-in or trick to get those arpeggios to stretch just from the bottom to the top note? The length seems to be quite random, so that's another time-consuming adjustment I'm having to make manually. And when I drag them up or down (making sure I grab the bottom or top "handle"), sometimes they retain the same length and sometimes they stretch and turn red.

Thanks for any ideas……
Beth

I suspect you are using the Arpeggio from the Lines menu. The one in Keypad 5 is much better-behaved.

Thanks, Laurence. The Keypad 5 Arpeggio IS better behaved in that it will let me control the length. BUT it still tries to sit on top of the chord, especially if the chord is on beat one. And it gets between the notes of the chord and any accidentals there may be.

Perhaps this should be a separate post, but I'd also like to be able to select a not-necessarily-contiguous group of chords and add arpeggios to them as a batch. For that matter, I'd like to do the same with dynamics and I DO think that's possible (isn't it?), but I'm forgetting how if it is. I'm just starting to get into the 7.5 update.

Thanks again,
Beth

I read that you move the chords ((Shift-Alt-arrow)to make room for the lines. That's good, but I find that after completing the score, and finally do "reset note spacing" the process messes up the carefully positioned arpeggio lines. Does that happen in your case?
