Sib. 7.5: Cautionary accidental bad position

Hi,

In the attachment, you can see that the 2nd chord gives an 'error' in the accidental placement. I've also tried it without brackets, and the result looks better.

Is there an automatic way to fix the problem for the cautionary accidentals?

I've now tried to change the X value of the accidental, but the extra space before the 1st note remains in all staves of the score, unless I drag my barline closer, but I'd rather not be doing that...

I've checked my music font, and it was set to another font than Opus Std.

When I change to Opus Std, I get a good result... (see attachment)

But still, I have to use the other font for my publisher, can I fix this?

In fact the third chord also has wrong accidental placement, though it’s less obvious as the unbracketed natural is narrower. I would guess it is due to the bounding box height being wrong for the font you are using. Sibelius thinks the natural is too high for the lower natural to fit below the one an octave higher, and therefore moves the lower one to the left. I would also guess that if you experimentally increased the interval between the notes, the lower accidentals would be correctly positioned. Short of editing the font, I think all you can do, if you’re obliged to use that font, is change the X value and then deal with the gap after the barline.

In Engraving Rules > Accidentals you may try to diminish the vertical gap between accidentals. As Kim stated this is for sure the reason why Sibelius moves the lower accidental to the left when you use the other font.

When you got back to Opus, did you just change the font or did you change the House Style? The latter may have implied a change in the settings, including the vertical gap in Engraving Rules > Accidentals.

Wim,

I didn't change my Engraving Rules. I just changed the main music font.

Kim,

Setting the value to 0,1 did the trick! If I go any further it also affects accidentals in other chords which resulted into collisions.

Thanks guys!

Greetings,

Hannes

In an ideal world, if a publisher supplies a custom font that they wish you to employ, they should also supply a House Style containing all the settings for successful use of that font in Sibelius.

Robin, that would be great!! But it's not the case :)

All publishers I work for started in Finale and now use both Finale and Sibelius. So I had to search for the ideal settings myself. But hey, no problem, that's how I really got deep into the program settings and I've learned a lot in the past few years!
