I'm going away today with my laptop, which I've just realised hasn't been upgraded from 7 to 7.5. I've just been transferring some of my current projects from my desktop (which has 7.5), and of course they won't open in 7. If I try to upgrade to 7.5 on my laptop it's giving me the option of buying an upgrade or getting a free trial! As I've already bought the 7.5 upgrade, can someone enlighten me as to the best way to get my laptop upgraded, as I've forgotten how to do this. (I didn't do the upgrade on both machines at the same time, in case I ran into difficulties with 7.5)
If it's going to take too long to upgrade the laptop, I suppose I'll have to export what I'm working on to Sib.7 - which is a bit of a nuisance.
(Or would the 'free trial' route work, even though I've previously had one on my desktop, as I'll only be away for a couple of weeks?)

Please explain exactly what you were doing when trying to upgrade. What installer were you trying to run?

What is "it"? At what stage of the installation is this occurring? Have you been given the opportunity to enter your 7.5 System ID and Activation code yet?

Thanks, Robin, but can I bypass my original question for the moment: as I ran out of time, I decided to export the scores I wanted to work on to Sibelius 7, and put them on a pen-drive. I am now in Spain, with laptop and the pen drive, and have successfully opened a couple of the scores in Sib.7. The sound-set I'm using is Sibelius 6 SoundsEssential.
My latest and most exasperating problem is that nothing will play! The 'transport' function seems to work OK, and the playback line returns to the beginning of the score. But when I try 'Play' or hit the spacebar, nothing happens! I've also tried clicking on a note and typing 'p', but this doesn't work either. In fact the note doesn't sound, although it does turn blue.
Any suggestions, please?

Phew! Think I've got it sorted. I remembered that once or twice previously I've had a warning message when opening Sibelius that there is a problem with the audio engine or something (whatever that is). It told me to go into playback devices and do a 'cleanup'. Although I didn't get any warning message this time (and I've tried re-starting Sibelius a number of times) , I went through this procedure, and it seems to have cured the problem. Why it keeps happening, I've no idea. I don't think I use 'rewire', or even know what it is!
So at last I can do a bit of work on my music!!!

Strangely, the same thing has happened again, a couple of days down the line. I was getting very strange, crackly sounds on playback, then when I reloaded sibelius I couldn't get anything to play. So I had to go through the same process of doing a clean-up on audio engines - a bit of a palaver... Can anyone tell me what might be the cause of this?

Usually, if the Sibelius start-up music plays, but files don't. that may mean that the wrong audio driver has been selected. This can occur after a reinstall. Sibelius sometimes doesn't select the correct one, and you must change it manually. You can select a different driver while you are in "Audio Engine Options." Worth a try, anyway.
