Sib. 7.5: Instrument changes/Baroque/layout
Posted by Judith - 24 Jul 12:28PM
I have had difficulties in changing different instruments, mainly Organ to Harpsichord and back again, so decided to 'add' both these instruments to separate staves and then delete the original one I had created. This done, I hid the empty staves. However, I now realise that these take up space in the layout and am unable to make a reasonable layout without having a half empty page for most of the score. This score has been prepared because it is no longer in print anywhere and we need it for an imminent concert with all parts included. Could anyone help me with either changing the instrument (without having separate staves) or with the enclosed .sib score's layout. I have added a pdf, done on a previous version before these instrument changes were made, so they are not always correct. As you can see the key signature also changes, not helping my problem.

One other point, in creating staves for both instruments I now have rests in both/several voices. Is there anyway I can remove/hide these in one go. Sometimes it works when I change from V12 to V1 but other times it changes the notes and becomes infuriatingly time-consuming.

Most of this, I put down to my ignorance but there you are, how else can you learn !

Most grateful for any help on the above.

This can be sorted out. But your score didn't attach. Maybe it's too big? Is it full of Versions?

If this merely confuses you more - email it to me privately if you like, I'll post a workable version.

Use an instrument change and all your problems go away. There's no need for having separate instruments.

Laurence I have sent you the file as requested by email, yes there are probably 2 versions.

Thank you Justin, I will go back to my orignal score and try the changes again, maybe I understand better how to do it !

By the way everyone, I'm using Mavericks 10.9.4

Nothing arrived yet...

If/when it does I'll try to post it here.

OK. Here are the scores, stripped of Versions to bring them down to a possible size for this forum.

If we want individual control in the Mixer of Organ and Harpsichord, seperate staves for each are the way to go. (But isn't this score being prepared for performance, not for Sibelius playback?)

If we want automatic labelling of each change from Organ to Harpsichord, Instrument Changes will do it - though the warnings "To Harpsichord", "To Organ" should probably be deleted.

In the "...instrumentchanges" version there are seperate staves AND Instrument changes!

Now, what was the question again?

Thanks everyone for all your help. In fact I was right in that I need the two types of scores, one for performance and one for playback for the chorus so I don't feel I completely wasted my time. The performance changes work now - don't know why they didn't before.
As always this forum always comes to my rescue - brilliant and thank you all again. Judith

Hi Everybody, I'm sorry to come back and don't know whether I should be starting a new thread or not but here goes. In the file below just loaded today, there are different staves for hspd and organ and NO instrument changes. (I have hidden empty staves). I cannot get all the notes to play, particularly Organ bass clef 'A Cappella' bar 1 page 17 (bar 91 in the overall score). I have no idea why. I need to be able to control the sound/s individually when preparing all the different working mp3s for SATB. so I do need all the notes to sound everywhere. Any help gratefully received. Judith

I can see there is no attachment - what do I do to send a .sib file with only the one version. ?

Do Review > Edit Versions and delete all versions, except for the current one. Now your score can be attached.

Note that you should always say 'No' when asked if you want to save a version. Unless you really want it, for exemple with another instrumentation.
