We are lacking in information from you, but I'm guessing that you are using Mac OS, and the icon for the file failed to be generated by the QuickLook generator for Sibelius 7.

This can happen if you have more than one version of Sibelius installed on the Mac at the same time. Is this the case with you? If so, you need to destroy the QuickLook generators for versions of Sibelius earlier than the version you wish to use. Usually it is the QuickLook generator for Sibelius 6 that causes this problem.

Robin.. thanks for your reply… how do I destroy the quicklook generator? Should I just delete my copy of Sibelius 6?

and, yes I’m on a Mac

the problem created by this word appearing on the file is that I cannot playback the file..

You can remove the Sibelius 6 QuickLook generator as follows:

- open the Applications folder;
- locate "Sibelius 6" inside the Applications folder;
- Ctrl-click (right-click) on "Sibelius 6" and in the context menu choose "Show package contents" or something like that;
- a window will open with the contents of the Sibelius 6 application package;
- look around inside that window and its subfolders for "SibeliusScore.qlgenerator", and delete it;
- empty the trash;
- close all the windows/folders you opened.

At this point, you should restart the Mac OS.

Then, launch Sibelius 7 directly from the Applications folder (not by double-clicking a Sibelius score file). In Sibelius 7, click "Preferences" in the File tab. In Sibelius 7 Preferences, click "Files", then, under "Repair File Associations", click the button "Repair".

Now your Sibelius score files should open correctly into Sibelius 7, and they might even have custom icons too.

One more thought; This just occurred in the last few days; I've owned this MacBook Pro for several years and there has never been a problem opening and playing my Sibelius files

Robin, to be clear, I am not having trouble opening the files; once open, they do not play back the file; when I go to the mixer, there is no instrument associated with the file and no indication that I can use Sibelius player...

Sorry, "Repair File Associations" is a Windows-only Sibelius facility.

For Mac OS:
- in the Finder, right-click on a Sibelius .sib score file and select "Get Info";
- in the "Get Info" panel, click on the "Open with" drop-down, and select "Sibelius 7";
- click "Change All"

deen, have you actually installed Sibelius 7 Sounds? It is a separate installation to Sibelius itself.

Please attach screen-shots of the following Sibelius dialogue windows:
1. Playback Devices;
2. Audio Engine Options.

3. and a screen-shot of the Finder "Get Info" panel for the folder:

If you have a single button mouse on a Mac, use Ctrl + Click as opposed to right-click.
