Sib. 3.x: Keyboards with sounds of their own
Posted by WoodyS - 23 Apr 06:22PM
I don't quite know how to ask this question intelligently but I'll make my best effort.

I have a keyboard that has a vast array of sounds of it's own. My question has to do with how much of that Sibelius is able to take advantage of. I mean, if I have a certain sound on my keyboard I like, can I create a staff in Sibelius that will playback that sound? For example, this particular keyboard has a nice sound called "Mixed Do Voices." Is it possible to create a staff that will play back with "Mixed Do Voices?".

Additionally: I know that some things "can" be done, but practically speaking, they are generally not done because the method for doing it complex or otherwise awkward. This may be one of those circumstances. I don't know, but I'm continually amazed at what technology can to these days. Maybe this is something Sibelius does rather easily but that I just happen to know nothing about.

Thank you.

You would create a playback configuration that routes output to your MIDI port/Keyboard.

What do you have specifically? There could be a sound set available, which would greatly simplify things.

Thank you for responding Bill

I have a Technics SX PR804 keyboard. It was a rather good keyboard for it's time though it is 8 years old. Technics was subsequently purchased by Panasonic.

Technics wasn't bought by Panasonic. Technics was just a brand name for Panasonic - it still is. They pulled out of the musical instrument market many years ago. The PR804 was launched in mid 2002, I wrote the press review in October that year. Nice example of their digital piano range.

You'd have to write a soundset for it, or do it the old fashioned way. Look in the manual (still available if you haven't got one) and find out the MIDI messages needed to change sounds. You can add these above your Sibelius staves.

You could do it. As no-one else would hear the sound if you sent them the Sibelius score, and as sequencer programs are
widely available, it's debatable whether a notation publisher is the best program to do it in!
