Sib. 7.0: Cubase 7.5 and Rewire
Posted by Pieter Corten - 15 Apr 06:48AM
Hi,

I'm getting this message when I attempt to open Sibelius in Rewire mode: The audio engine failed to start in Rewire mode. Choose Play > Playback Devices, click Audio Engine Options. When I do this Sibelius fixes itself, however it doesn't run in rewire afterwards (pretty logical as it tells the program not to run in rewire). How do I fix this?
I'm using Windows 7 64bit

Thanks in advance,

Make sure that you installed Sibelius *after* Cubase, as Sibelius requires the Rewire components that Sibelius installs, not the Rewire components as over-written by other applications.

Thanks for the tip! Is there a way to manually do this? I'd rather not have to reinstall sibelius as I have loads of custom settings and, sound sets and templates, just a whole bunch of stuff that I would have to add again...

It sounds like you need to re-install Sibelius from the beginning, and re-update to the latest version.

Re-installation does not affect your existing documents and settings.

Well, Sibelius and rewire is some sort of a "nice try".

What I do is the following:

I delete the files shown in the screenshot and then open Sibelius -> playback device -> repair

This works on my machine.

But also I am waiting for a Rewire-function in Sibelius ;)

I've tried reinstalling without succes. The problem seems to be being caused by the audio engine, I don't know what to do ... And thx for the tip Andrew I've tried deleting the files but that didn't work...

Is Sibelius 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hi, both are 64-bit.

I've found the solution on a forum of Steiberg. You should uncheck the box that says "release audiodriver when running in background", that's what made it crash. I've faced an other problem though, using the Sibelius 'cleanup' function deleted all Rewire files! I've reïnstalled and it all works again after a whole lot of unnecessary effort.
Now I have a problem with rewire itself: when I start at a point in the score different than the very beginning it laggs for about a second or 3 before picking up??
I don't think it is being caused by my hardware as it works perfectly when I start playback from the start.

Thanks, that is useful information for other sufferers.
