In the Orchestration information, I would like to show the Flat sign (instead of the small letter 'b') after Clarinet in B flat and Trumpet in B flat. Is this possible ?
Thanks.

We recently saw this problem on the Sib Yahoo list--it turned out the Music Text font had somehow changed--this was the solution there courtesy of Walter Lo Nigro. This is for Sib 6:
House Style> Edit All fonts> Change the Music Text font to Opus Text
If any are still messed up after changing the font, either:
a) correct them in the score or
b) Using Score Info,(File > Score Info) for the flat symbol in a name like “Clarinet in Bb”, then type a caret (^) before the characters that correspond to flat (letter b) and sharp (hash symbol #)"
Hope this helps and works here!
Thanks Bob

In score info box you do have to use ^ to get music font.
You can edit text on the page using ctrl+7/8/9 (nat/#/b) on number pad.
The ^ will then appear in score info.

I am sorry but I cannot understand properly your message. What I would like to do is, in the blank page, where I jotted down the instrumentation, is input the actual Flat sign against the B flat Clarinets and Trumpets. At the moment, the only thing I know is just inputting a lower case b (closely resembling the flat sign).

Pls go to House Style> Edit All fonts> and make sure the Music Text font is set to Opus Text. Its the third section down-- pls see attachment.
After that if it hasnt corrected them all, then pls do ONE of the following:
a) correct them in the score OR
b) Using Score Info,(File > Score Info) for the flat symbol in a name like “Clarinet in Bb”, then type a caret (^) before the characters that correspond to flat (letter b) and sharp (hash symbol #)"
I hope Im understanding you--if not, then pls attach a score which demonstrates the problem.
Thanks Bob

If you are trying to type the instrumentation on a blank page, you can type the instrument name in a Score Info field, using ^b for flat and # for sharp, and then put the corresponding wildcard (see Wildcards in the Reference) into a text item in the score. See the 2 screenshots as examples of these.
Alternatively, you can copy and paste the flat and sharp characters from a Character Map application from the Opus Text fonts, or copy the characters from text elsewhere in the score, and just insert them into the text. The wildcard might be a bit simpler.

Just a user of Sibelius. Sib 1.2 - 7, Windows 7 Pro SP 1 64 bit, 4 G RAM. Year 2014.
ctrl+9 Means hold the ctrl key then press 9 (on the keypad)
The convention is: + between keystrokes means hold the first key then press the second. So, the shortcut 'ctrl+shift+P' (reset position) means hold down ctrl & shift then hit 'P'
Try typing (say) technique text and using 'ctrl+9' if a flat symbol doesn't appear report back.

That was taken directly from the Sib 610 pdf ref man, p 636, when it was used to answer a similar question.
"If you want to use music text font characters in the instrument names in your score, e.g. for the flat symbol in a name like “Clarinet in Bb”, then type a caret (^) before the characters that correspond to flat (letter b) and sharp (hash symbol #) – indeed, you can use any of the formatting codes listed under Adding formatting changes to Score Info on page 263."
Its also shown in the attachment.
Thanks Bob

I have always called # a hash sign, outside of musical notation, that is. Pound sign is £.
when using modifier keys in Sib, do not let go until you have pressed the key you are modifying:
Press and hold [ctrl] and, while keeping it pressed, press 9 on the numeric keypad. Then let both keys go.

I've tried several times, and this is the negative result:
1 Score info showing (e.g. for Clarinet in Bb) B^b, but on the score is still showing Bb (not the proper flat sign).
2 House Style > Edit Instruments = also showing ^b, but again Bb shows on the score.
3 Edit all fonts showing Opus and Opus Text, but still showing Bb.

Carmelo can you attach the score? One of us could look and see exactly what has gone wrong. Alternatively, send it by email (click on the name) as an attachment.
If you have changed the score info, I seem to remember that it breaks the link between the contents of the box and the score/parts. My advice would be to edit the text in the score.

If changes you make in the score info box (score open) do not appear in the part (as Mike says) you have broken the dynamic link between the score and the part. This happens when editing score info data with the part open instead of the score. Once broken it is not recoverable.
Delete the Clarine/Trumpet parts and re-create dynamic parts.
Posting the Sib file would confirm - you can delete the notes!

Attached score edited. It worked as I stated before. Edit instrument name on score by typing ctrl+9 where you need the flat symbol . Hold down Ctrl whuile you hit 9 (on keypad NOT top line). The music symbol appears.
If it doesn't then you have a font problem.
Dynamic parts are linked to the score and reflect changes made there. By default the score is on White paper and Dynamics parts are Parchment (cream colour) Dynamic parts are created by default when you start a score. If you search the manual for 'Dynamic Parts' you will get lots more info.
Hope this is helps.

I have also had a quick look at your file and there seem to be some very strange things going on with the instruments names in terms of positioning and spacing. In general, I have only found it necessary to mess with these when I needed two different instruments on the same staff or if the instrument name was too long and needed to be split onto two lines. Otherwise, I'd recommend leaving well enough alone until you become more proficient.

I would like to thank you for your interest and help in this matter, and I am pleased to let you know that I have now resolved this issue.
Kindest regards.

It seems that I have finally resolved this issue, thanks to you and several others that rushed to my assistance - I must say that your particular help was extremely useful.
I have created new parts for Clarinet and Trumpets, and both showed up with the proper Flat sign. I will now copy the parts on to their staves and cancel the old ones attached to the b (letter 'b' sign)sign instead of the Flat sign.
I have also noted that the old ones with the 'b' sign were located one space to the right, instead of hard left in the Staves in Score (when a score is created).
One thing that did not work no matter how much I tried is typing Ctrl (hold), then hitting 9 = no flat symbol showed up ! Perhaps it was something to do (not sure whether you mentioned or someone else) with some sort of link breakage ( trying to change something on the individual parts and not in the score).
Anyway, in the end I got what I was after, and much obliged again for your continued support and assistance.
Kindest regards,
Carm.

Glad you got a resolution. Intriguing why ctrl+9 when adding text doesn't produce a flat symbol. When you add a metronome mark or tempo marking how do you add (say) a quarter note symbol? That involves the same procedure. ctrl+4 (1/4 note) ctrl+5 (1/2 note) etc.
Are you using a laptop? If so try:
File>Preferences>KeyboardShortcuts - look at 'Current Feature Set' and try 'Notebook (Laptop} Shortcuts.

The metronome mark I normally include when creating the score, and then, most of the time, I copy the metronome to where there is a metronome change, and then edit to the new metronome requirement.
I am still finding my way around Sibelius, and because I do not do a lot of work with it, it seems to be taking me a long time to learn.
Thank you again.

I also just noticed that changing 'b' to the Flat sign can be done by editing in between, say Clarinet and 'b', changing the font to opus text, and just type 'b'. The 'b' will show as the proper flat sign.
