When saving a new file - even a mostly-blank score - Sibelius takes an extremely long time - up to several minutes. During this time, the cursor can be moved, but otherwise the computer freezes completely - i.e., clicking in another window has no effect. The keyboard is not responsive - key commands have no effect, can't switch applications, etc.
Eventually the 'save' dialog box appears, and from then on, everything appears to be normal. Subsequent 'save' actions proceed with the usual fast speed.
This problem is unique to Sibelius 7.5, and my computer runs fine otherwise.
Anybody else have this issue?

I dont have that issue, but have had problems using "Save As"--and it was with Sib 6 IIRC--
it took forever for the Save As dialog to appear, and was caused by too many files in my Scores folder, and also to a much lesser extent, how I chose to view the files in that dialog.
I set up a new, second Scores folder there, and all has been fine since.
Hopefully this helps!
Thanks Bob

The freeze problem I described occurs only for the first new file created after Sibelius launches.
For subsequent new files, the first time they're saved the freeze is only 7-8 seconds. That's not as bad as 2-3 minutes, but it's still too long, and I can't think of any other application that takes that long and causes the entire computer to freeze while calling up the Save dialog.
EDIT: In my original post, I said I thought the problem was related to the application Default Folder X. That no longer appears to be the case - the problem remained when DF-X was uninstalled. Please see my post dated May 4.
This happens no matter what the destination folder is.
Also - a separate issue - Sibelius 7.5 ignores changes to destination folders for Save and Auto Backup in the 'Saving and Exporting' Preferences. Instead, the Save dialog opens in the user Documents folder, and the Auto-Backup feature saves in the default location. So far I've found three other threads where this was reported.

Default Folder X is current.
EDIT: The issues remained even after I uninstalled DF-X. Developer is helping troubleshoot, but it appears that DF-X is NOT involved in this issue.

Update: I ran the developer's app for removing DF-X's preferences, then ran the uninstaller. I also tried the following, restarting the computer after each:
1. disabling several other login items one at a time (add-ons like Key Cue and Pop Char)
2. turning off Dropbox
3. un-mounting and turning off my NAS drive (Synology DS212j)
The save issues remained. So now it seems DF-X is not the problem.
A web search shows that the issue of slow Save dialog (as well as the Open dialog) is pretty common in Mavericks. I tried one of the workarounds, which involved editing a document in the /etc folder, but it didn't help.

I wonder whether your residual 7-8 second delay is associated with QuickLook generation? There seem to be issues with slow QuickLook under Mavericks. Sibelius has a custom QuickLook generator.
