I'm trying to get rid of vestigial ties at the beginning of a system following a first repeat ending (this would also be a problem with l. v. notes). It seems impossible to grab and shorten the continuation or to hide it, and it seems unaffected by anything done to the right hand of the system above... Do I need to make some new kind of line?
One is to use non-magnetic slurs, shaped and placed manually to resemble ties. (With nothing selected, choose a slur from the Lines menu and then click to place it in the score. You will probably find it easiest to do this in Panorama mode, to avoid it running over the system break, at least initially.)
Another is to make a hidden tuplet out of the last note, e.g. if it is a crotchet, turn it into a crotchet tied to a semiquaver. Then hide the semiquaver. Now the tie won't project over the system break. There is, I think, a downloadable plug-in that does this for you.
For l.v. ties, there is a symbol that can be used (and I think a downloadable plug-in that will automate this for you).
Hope that helps

There are two plug-ins dealing with l.v. The one Jeremy is referring to is called "LV Fake" and is on the "Notes and Rests" page of the plug-in section.
There's also a plug-in that simply adds l.v. symbols to notes: <http://www.sibelius.com/download/plugins/index.html?plugin=417>. I haven't tried this yet, because I tend to find the l.v. symbols a bit on the small side (OTOH, they're uniform, whereas when faking l.v. symbols with ties, you can sometimes get big variations in the length of the ties).
