Sibelius development.
Posted by Gazza - 16 May 12:58PM
A US based friend of mine recently mentioned in a Facebook post that Avid "has said they won't continue to update Sibelius beyond its current version." Has anyone else heard this?

This has been conjectured. But not I think announced. In fact, I think Avid would deny it.

I can verify that this is absolutely not the case. I was hired recently as a Technical Lead for the program and plans are afoot.

Why does no-one believe anything that Avid says, I wonder?

Yes, I am still waiting for Bobby Lombardi's (promised 7 months ago) first weekly blog.
Actually not, because I don't think he has got anything interesting to say about Sibelius anyway.

Does Avid have no money to spend on PR?

Surely, hiring a new 'Technical Lead' would count as (good) news compared with the radio silence of the past year.

I've answered my own question -they have no money.

As far as I know, a (small) team of programmers is in place in the Ukraine (who work for a contractor with whom Avid has a strategic partnership), and they work under the supervision of developers based in Boston and Daly City (Michael Ost might be one of them). That is what Bobby Lombardi told me a couple of weeks ago. It has not been officially confirmed by Avid yet as far as I know (maybe it's not important enough).

Thanks for the info Peter (once again).

(The following comments are not directed at anyone in particular) I may be speaking out of ignorance here but seeing Michael Ost, who I take to be new to Avid, in the team is probably the most positive thing I've seen about Sibelius in a long long while. I feel nothing but contempt for the way Avid handled themselves, I think it was underhand, misguided, inept etc etc. I think i can lay claim to being one of the more vociforous ant-Avid campaigners. But give the man a chance.
