Sib. 7.1.3: Retrograde
Posted by Roger W - 12 Feb 07:41AM
In Sibelius 6 there is a retrograde plug-in that creates a new score with everything (including bars and time signatures) in the reversed order. In Sibelius 7 Retrograde Pitches and Rhythms does not reverse the time signatures and thus easily leads to the "tuplet would cross a barline" problem, in which case it stuffs everything into a single bar. Is there a Retrograde plug-in for Sib 7 that would work more like the retrograde plug-in in Sib 6?

As a workaround, you could export a Sib 6 file if you still have sibelius 6 installed and active, then run the plug-in in Sib 6, finally save and then re-open in Sib 7

Thank you for the replies. This question came up on another forum and I was surprised to see this functionality removed from Sib 7, so I was just checking in here to see if the plug-in was still available somewhere. I can indeed export to Sib 6 if I ever feel like going backwards.

Due to a quirk in the way that the Transform plugins are added to the Ribbon in the Note Input tab, plugins that are not listed that way but exist in the Transformations folder do not appear in the "more" menu, or any other plugin menu.

This affects the Retrograde plugin, which is equivalent to the older Retrograde plugins in Sib 6 and earlier that create a separate score. The other Retrograde plugins all do the retrograde function "in line".

The functionality is not removed from Sibelius 7, but to access the plugin you need to assign a shortcut to Retrograde in File > Preferences >Keyboard Shortcuts> Plugins.

If you do that you will have access to it in Sib 7.

It would be good for future versions of Sibelius if the Retrograde plugin were added to list of retrograde functions, or at least to the "more" submenu in the Transformations tab.

Thank you Bob! This is most interesting and good to know, in case I am missing some other old plugin!

The ones in Transformations are really the only odd ones. There is no separate Transformations menu in the Ribbon, and if you add plugins to the Transformations folder, they will not appear in any menu in Sibelius, though they are accessible by shortcuts, or by something like the Run Plugins By Name plugin.

Normally if you (or Sibelius) adds a plugin to a folder that is a subfolder of the Plugins folder, it will appear in the Plugin menu with the same name as the folder.

Hi everyone.
I found that workaround to implement the plugins that Bob discovered. I found the original plugins inside the Sibelius 7.5 package. I copied them in my custom plugin folder (inside of another folder, called transform). The trick is: the plugins name has to be changed. I added some characters to every name. Invert.plg -> And-invert.plg. Now they are found in the home tab of the ribbon.
