I have a question: How do I make an orchestral reduction of my orchestra score without having to start from scratch writing it?

Add a piano a) and b) staff to your orchestral score and then have a look at Home > Note Input > Reduce.
With a complex score or a score with many instruments it's worth first to use a piano a)+ b)+c)+d) staff and then reduce that one again to a)+b)

Thanks so much for your reply, but I'm having problems follow the directions. (I have MacOS 10.8.2. if that makes a difference).

1. I can't figure out how to designate piano a)+b)+c)+d); since it makes sense to me to create those subsections of the piano part, I'd like to know how to do that.

2. I not have a Piano part, which appeared below the percussion, as per usual, but I can't get the reduction to go in that piano part. On my copy of Sib., Home is different from Note Input; so I can't go to Home>Note Input>Reduce. I did, however, get to Note Imput>Reduce, clicked on that, but still no reduction.

I tried selecting the piano part and clicking on Reduce; also tried all the options in the pop-up window when I clicked Reduce, but still nothing.

Can you give me further help?

1. Press I to go to Instruments and add Extra Staff above and beneath to the piano.

2. Well, you HAVE to build it up from scratch anyhow, but the Reduce feature will help you a lot. For example if you have a Flute line and a Oboe line which play in thirds for 16 measures you can select the two lines together as a passage. (First select the Flute, then Cmd-click on the Oboe.) Copy and go to Note Input > Reduce. Choose the Piano as Destination Staff > OK. Done.
Depending on your score and your own insight, you can choose more instruments and longer passages at once.

Thanks so much! I'll try that.

I remember Finale many years ago "dumped" the score into a piano reduction--of course it was a mess to be cleaned up. But I was hoping maybe Sib. had figured out a way to do that better.

Well, this will be much cleaner, anyway. It's still pretty amazing, tho. At least it's not pencil/paper.

Well, Sibelius can do that as well: reduce the entire score at once to a two staff piano, but cleaning up afterwards can be more work than building it up yourself.
By the way, you should upgrade if you're still on Sibelius 7.0
