So I finally treated myself to an A3 printer (HP Officejet 7500), mainly to be able to print 2 pages of A4 on A3. But I'm struggling with the settings. I get 2 pages on the sheet, but they are reduced in size. Can you help me find the right settings to correct this? With thanks!
Without an OfficeJet 7500 to hand, I doubt many people can help in detail.
However, the principle is that you make no changes in Sibelius: let Sibelius just produce A4 pages as normal. It is the printer driver settings that should enable you to do 2-up printing.

Reduced by how much?
71% (1/sqrt(2))?
If so you prob FEED it with A3, but the DRIVER thinks it outputs on A4. See to that either specify A3 as output format or "Use original size" (if that is an option). Turn off any "Scale and Center"/"Fit to page" option as these often do more harm than good. You want to process as 100% scale.
As Robin said, do all your work in Sib in 100%, e.g. A4 single page, and then let the driver mount it 2-up on A3.
Assuming you are on Windows OS I would recommend software Fine Print (www.fineprint.com) as it will sort out all your issues such as 2-up printing, booklet printing. If you do a great deal of printing it is really the most useful piece of software you could ever have. I use it all the time and print everything via Fine Print. I think you can download a free trial (which prints a watermarked print until you purchase) so I recommend you try it out.
And for folk using Macs I've found that a program called 'cheap impostor' works _very_ nicely. It puts two pdf pages on one, allowing resizing and repositioning with separate control of the size of the middle 'border'. It also makes doing 2-up and booklets easy, and isn't expensive. Been using it for a couple of years to make up stapled orchestral parts.
There shouldn't be any reason to have special software to print 2 A4 pages on one sheet of A3. In Sibelius 6 choose 2-up in the Print dialog with the Page Set-up set to A3 Landscape.
In Sibelius 7 it's even more straightforward.
Fully agreed with both Wim and Mats -- it's just that I've found that having a little more control on placement can allow my poor eyes(!) a chance to have the 2-up version have the individual pages as large as possible, rather than defaulting to the established margins.
(There's a reason I do a bunch of 2-up, non-magazine printing ... when accompanying on the piano, I find it nice to have a stack of somewhat reduced* 2-up pages since it allows a ton of flexibility on when the page-turn happens; i.e., anywhere in the following two pages, perhaps not when both hands are going crazy for example.)
Graeme
* in the US I do two letter-sized pages onto one legal-sized sheet, and there's ample room on the piano music stand to have two stacks of legal-sized paper.
Bob, make sure after File > Print that the Settings really correspond to what your after. If you have, say, a 2 A4 page score, which you want to print on one A3 sheet, the settings should be
- Print all pages
- Two pages per sheet
- Landscape orientation
- Print one sided (this is important. It sounds as if you're using inadvertently 'Automatically Print Both Sides, using printer duplexing option'
- check 'Fit on page'
- click on Page Set-up and choose A3
Eventually check that you're using the correct driver: click on Printer Properties > Options > Gestion and try to find your way.

This don't work on my printer Brother MFC-J6710DW. If I choose A3 then the print preview disappears. Back in page set-up I see that there is again A4 selected. So it is impossible to select A3. Any solutions (please no workarounds like PDF printing or Fineprint ... I know them)?
Uwe, this was a thread about Sibelius 6. You refer to a print preview, so you must be using Sibelius 7. The Sibelius 6 instructions will not be meaningful on Sibelius 7.
First, you need your Sibelius score to have been formatted for A4 paper size, portrait orientation (in Document Setup). Then to print it 2-up on A3, in the Print dialogue, do the following:
- select "Spreads" instead of "Normal";
- select "Landscape" orientation, instead of "Portrait";
- click the link "Page Setup" and select "A3", click OK;
- click "Print".

I also have this, trying to print A4 parts 2 pages side by side on A3 paper in landscape. I've tried every combination possible in the Sib print dialogue and the OS dialogue, and I always get 2 A5 pages in Portrait, either side by side or one on top of the other down the left hand side.
This used to work perfectly in Sib 6 with the same printer. I'm going back to Sellotape. Sib 7.1.3 HP LaserJet 5000DN
