Sib. 6.x: Upgrade on a different computer
Posted by David Fielker - 26 Jun 12:21PM
I have Sib 6.2 on my old computer and I wish to upgrade to 7 on my new one.

Can I do this straight onto the new one or do I have to transfer the old Sibelius first?

Straight to the new one.

Are you OK with the details of registration, and your two permissible installations? Will you be keeping the old computer, and its Sibelius 6?

Thanks, Laurence.

I assume I still have registration details. By two permissible installations do you mean one on each computer, but the new computer is the one which has enough memory for the sounds.

I'll be keeping the old computer, but the main task will be to transfer a lot of sib files from 6 to 7. Presumably I just open them from 7, but obviously I shall need to transfer them to the new computer first, which should not be a problem. (Fingers crossed!)

No problem at all. They're just files, like any other. If the computers aren't networked, a USB flash drive is maybe easiest. They don't have to all be transferred in one batch.

Your Sibelius 6 files will open automatically in Sibelius 7.

You can also install Sibelius 7 on the old computer if you like, minus the Sounds. Sibelius 6 (and its Sounds) will remain, and the two versions will count as just one one registration. Sibelius 7 in itself is no more demanding than Sibelius 6.

If you ask the Registration Support people nicely, they will also give you a code enabling Sibelius 6 to be installed alongside Sibelius 7 on the new computer. You'll then have access to the Sibelius 6 Sounds, which can be used by Sibelius 7, take a lot less time to load than the new ones, and, apart from anything else, are quite different, giving you an alternative palette of sounds.

It looks as if the box may be much easier than a download. Will I be able to install Sib 7 from this onto both computers?
