I am contemplating the purchase of an M-audio KeyRig Controller for my Windows 7 Dell Laptop.

Because I do not have enough disk space I do not run my Sibelius 7 with all the sounds that come with it. I just use General MIDI. Just to be sure I understand; if I buy the MIDI controller will it work without all the Sibelius sounds loaded on my hard drive?

I believe there is more than one model of M-Audio 49 controller, is one substantially better than another? Something less than $100.00 is what I'm looking for.

The MIDI controller will work with any sound configuration, because it produces no sounds, but only inputs MIDI messages. My KeyRig 49 works fine for step-time input. It doesn't even need a special driver loaded; just plug it in and it'll work.

I use an M-Audio "Keystation 49e" controller on a laptop w/o the Sib7 sounds and it works just fine.
