Sib. 6.x: Quick Start Tip Of The Day
Posted by Jim Roberts - 23 Jun 12:38AM
I've learned a good many things by reading the Tip Of The Day in Quick Start window, but this one made me look twice:

"Stand the legs of your bed in bowls of salt to fend off vampires"

This won't help me get a decent page layout, but I've never felt safer at night!

Daniel Spreadsbury - Vampire Slayer. I guess that explains how he can be found answering questions here all night long.

I can't take the credit for that tip of the day. I think it was Ben Finn who put that one in, way back when. Tips of the day are no longer displayed in Sibelius 7, so unfortunately that pearl of wisdom will be lost to future generations.

For something that's still in Sib7, go to file>preferences>keyboard shortcuts>tuplets, and read the list carefully.

Obviously a joke from Avid Ink.

No, it long predates Avid. I've seen it in every version of Sibelius I've had. (However, I see your point.)

The Finns have a great sense of humour that once used to pervade the owners manuals, as I found the first time I reviewed a Sibelius product years ago (Sib 2). It made me, and a few readers, smile! :)

And, apart from the wonderful gratuitous insult to "bagpipe or accordion" players (search that phrase in the manual) that's about it. Or have I missed any?

Afficonados of such things should look through the manuals for Mackie products, where they are rife.

Martin,

Yes, it was the ink not the Avid that was uppermost.

I too remember it as an Acorn (Archimedes?) product. Met one of the Finns at an early BETT… in the Horticultural Halls???
