I am having real problems with the Sibelius 7.1.2 update. I also updated the Sibelius Sounds to 7.1.2.

If I try and load any of my scores it just crashes with the 'Sibelius has stopped working' message.

If I load Sibelius and don't load a score - no audio devices are available in the Play->Playback Devices -> Audio Engine Options window.

If I load Sibelius and then once loaded, immediately close it - I get the 'Sibelius has stopped working' message.

The original 7.1.0 build seemed to work OK before I upgraded.

Please help !

First, please tell us what audio output hardware device is in use, and whether the device driver for that card is up-to-date.

Then please try this:

- quit Sibelius (if necessary restart Windows to be sure);
- click Start -> All Programs -> Avid -> Sibelius 7 User Data;
- in the folder that opens, rename or delete the "PlogueEngine" folder;
- launch Sibelius (it will re-create the PlogueEngine folder).

Robin - I'm running an EMU1212M PCI audio card.

I deleted the folder you mentioned - this had no effect.

Interestingly the PlogueEngine folder I deleted was not re-created, and I can see in the startup.log file that Sibelius creates on startup that it at least can see my hardware (E-MU Asio is the audio device I use) see snippet below.

Sibelius 6 can see my hardware and operates fine. I'm pretty sure the original 7.1.0 build 54 worked OK too.

Finally, SysInternals DebugView shows that a 'dump file' is being written to my AppData folder when Sibelius 'stops working'. Would this be of use in tracking down the problem?

I'm going to uninstall and revert to 7.1.0 to confirm that works OK.

Please check that you have installed the latest driver for your EMU 1212M PCI card: "EmuPMX_PCDrv_L6_2_10_00.exe" dated 5 July 2011, available from:

Robin - thanks for your help.

Everything is now working as expected.

I also had to install the corresponding version of PatchMix DSP, EmuPMX_PCApp_L6_2_10_00.exe available from the same place.

This was mildly confusing since even though I definitely used the 6.2.10 installer for both, windows is reporting the driver at version 6.0.1.1244
