Sib. 6.x: Midi Message removal
Posted by Will - 03 Jun 11:58AM
I'd like to remove midi messages that appear in a converted midi file to Sibelius 6.2. I know I should go to advanced filter but from that point onward I have no success. Can someone explain the procedure in simple terms or direct me to a post which explains the same.
Thank-you,
W.S.

I think you'll find the MIDI messages appear in Sibelius as Technique Text. An imported MIDI file is unlikely to contain any other Technique Text. So filter for that text style then press Delete.

Or, filter for any text object containing the character '~', and delete them all.

So Robin's suggestion would require the Advanced Filter.

Go there and set both View and Find (on the left) to be Text.
Now type ~ in the "Containing" box. You could, at this point, change the Specific Text Styles list so it only contains Technique, but it is very unlikely that with an imported MIDI file you would have ~'s anywhere except in MIDI messages.

How choose Select and you should have the messages filtered, Hit Delete and you should be done.

No success so far but many thanks everyone who responded for your generous interest. On closer inspection most of the numbers ( midi messages) which are superimposed upon each other seem to be metronome markings. Is this a normal imported midi file converted to Sibelius 6.2 event?

Why don't you post a bit of the score that has the problem and I am sure someone will be able to figure it out.

But yes, typically there is a "cloud" of MIDI messages, all identified by a leading ~.

Hi

I have certainly seen Midi imports festooned with metronome markings. You can delete them but this will affect playback.

You can filter & delete (as Bob explained) for text containing '=' and you're unlikely to catch anything else.

Hope that helps
