Sib. 7.1: Selecting a chord
Posted by Jesper Elén - 04 May 01:09PM (edited 04 May 01:49PM)
Hi, I'm pretty fast at navigating the score with key commands, selecting, copying, moving between staffs etc. but there is one thing that slows me down tremendously. That is to select a whole chord on the current staff. Anyone know if this is possible with key commands?
I can navigate through the individual notes in the chord and shift layer etc. but every time I need to select the whole chord for copying I have to use the mouse and double-click. If there is nothing in the staff below or above I can shift-arrow to select the chord and the empty place in the other staff but that's usually not an option. I think I use half my time grabbing the mouse and double-click so if it's not possible I really would like to see it implemented.
Depending on the music but for jazz I constantly need to select a chord to arrange/explode it to the horns and my earlier request to be able to scrub/listen to all the tracks/layers with the arrows and some modifier key would also be great to have.

Jesper

Just made a plugin that selects the whole chord but still would be better if it was built in

Daniel, brilliant, can't believe I used Sibelius for so many years without knowing, Searched the manual several times but must have looked in the wrong place.

Thanks a million.

Jesper

It's totally logical, and I use the same command for selecting text so ought to have tried it.

Is that shift-alt-a in Windows? That seems to do a system selection

You can accomplish much the same thing, with a passage selection, with shift-up arrow or shift-down arrow.

Is there a way to make a non-passage selection of an entire chord in one keystroke?

Ah, it is shift-ctrl-a in Windows, and that answers my question. It just selects the notes with no passage.

Yes, that's the one Bob and it's really useful. I copy chords all the time.
It's in the manual under keyboard shortcuts -> multiple selections & passages.
(Select all noteheads in chord (Select More) ) I found out now that I know that it exists.

Is there any way to change the shift-command-A default? I don't see this in the list of keyboard shortcuts under selection...

In my list of kbd shortcuts (on 6.2) it's under the 'Edit' category and is called 'Select More'.

Is there any way to make this the default? For instance, if I'm using the cursor arrow keys to go to a chord, is there the option that when the cursor lands on the chord, all notes in the chord are selected?

Seems that shft/ctrl/a has to be entered after every landing.
