On trying to open previously saved scores made in Sib 7.1 or Sib 6 I just get the message "There was an error opening the score /Users/username/Documents/Scores/.......sib. The files could not be opened".
As this is displayed I get the spinning wheel
If I attempt to create a new score and select a manuscript paper (e.g. "piano") I get a message that says "This file could not be opened. /Applications/Sibelius7.app/Contents/Resources/en.1proj/Manuscript paper/SoloInstruments/Piano.sib" and again the spinning wheel.
Has anyone got any ideas. Sib.7 seemed to be working fine.
Thanks

Yes this problem continues after I have restarted the computer. There is only one recent file that I seem to be able to open from the Quickstart screen and I get no sound with that file. If I make any changes to this file Sibelius says it can't save it. I also got a message saying that auto-save wasn't able to function.
If I try to create a new score I'm unable to access any manuscript papers.

At the risk of sounding stupid - how do I do that?

Hi Daniel - sorry about my previous mail. I have now run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility and although there were many repairs I still have the same problem with Sib7.1.2

I think you need to contact our support team directly, Trevor. This is definitely some kind of problem specific to your Mac, but I'm not sure what it might be.
Have you tried creating a new user account on your Mac, and run Sibelius from there?
Thanks Daniel I'll try and contact the tech team. I'm not sure where to find my Avid Support No though. Is it possible to simply try and re-install Sib 7.1.2 by dragging the application to trash, emptying the trash and then rerunning the downloaded updater?

Try Disk Utility
Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Mac OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Same issue. Can't save a new score, get the error message "unable to open score file "file path/filename" Opening an existing score causes Sibelius to crash. I've submitted the crash log via the dialog when Sibelius is relaunched.
Any resolution to this?
Update: New user: Sibelius doesn't find necessary fonts, and crashes on new score creation.

I tried re-installing Sibelius using the full installer (rather than the upgrade) and am still unable to open or save files. Console reveals nothing of an importance, just the reference to the notification:
2012.05.5 6:44:15.363 PM [0x0-0x1a01a].com.avid.sibelius7: Unable to open score file /Users/user/Scores/Songs/filename.sib for writing

I've installed Sib 7.1.2 on a backup machine (specs in footer) running OS X 10.6.8 and am able to create a new file and save it. I did not install Sibelius Sounds on the backup machine (using General MIDI for audio output). Not sure if that's relevant.

Ryk, I suggest you contact technical support for help with this. It's certainly due to some problem specific to your computer, but I'm not sure what it might be.
Well, you could wipe your hard disk and reinstall your OS, then reinstall Sibelius, which I imagine would fix it, but otherwise you would probably be best off talking to our technical support team.
In case anyone's having the same issue, it goes away if I open Sibelius in 32-bit mode. To do that (Mac only), quit Sibelius, go to Applications/Sibelius 7, select it, and choose File->Get Info. Check the checkbox that says "Open in 32-bit mode." Relaunch Sibelius.

"There was a known conflict with the Instant On feature in the Rogue Amoeba software and Sibelius 7. We alerted them of the problem and they fixed the issue in the lastest updates of their software. So if you've installed the lastest version of that software you should no longer encounter the problem."

Had the same issue, and doing as Ryk suggested, turning on 32-bit mode, worked for me (except mine says "low resolution mode"). Then out of curiosity I turned it back off and it still works, so thanks Ryk!
