Sib. First: Doubling Note Values
Posted by thequietkid86 - 22 Mar 03:02AM
Hi, there. I opened an midi file using Sibelius. The notation is in front of me. However, I'm trying to double the note values for the entire piece. Meaning I want to change all quarter notes to half notes, all eighth notes to quarter notes, etc. I have no idea how to do that. I've looked for help topics but can't find any. Halp please?

Use the Double Note Values Plug-in - see attached screenshot, or better yet, download and install Bob Zawalich's Copy Double Notes plugin from here http://www.sibelius.com/download/plugins/index.html?versionname=&category=23

[EDIT: There are also halve note values equivalents, which are just as useful.}

Unfortunately these plugins are not available in Sibelius First.

To double by hand, you pretty much have to add all the notation in again, which is certainly tedious.

If you just need this for a single score, if you post the score here, I can run it through the plugin in Sibelius 6 and produce a score that has everything doubled, which I can post or email back to you. That would likely save a lot of work.

Thanks for the offer Bob but I already did it. I spent like three hours doing it but that's fine. I'm not one to just sit around. I was just hoping for a solution next time but it doesn't look like there is one for First. If I install the Sibelius 6 trial it would have the plug-in, correct? I won't be able to save but at least I can get it all done in one shot and in less than 3 hours next time.

Yes, the Sib 6 demo would have Double Note Values.

I don't remember if that demo had a 30 day trial, or if it is even still available, but the Sibelius 7 demo does have a 30 day trial where you can save, and it does include the plugin as well.

If Sibelius First offers Export as MIDI then you could always double the values in a DAW and then re-import.

For shipping plugins like Double Note Values you can type the name in the Find in Ribbon box.

For downloadable plugins see the searchable category list linked to in my signature.
