Sib. 7.1: Can I run Sib 6(x) and Sib 7 on the same PC?
Posted by Gwyn Williams - 19 Feb 01:58PM
Hi all. I'm finding this ribbon thing a nightmare to navigate, it seems wholly counter-intuitive. I'll stick with it though, I'm sure I'll adapt eventually.

CanI run Sib 6(x) and Sib 7.1 on the same machine? I realise that I'd have to de-register the version of Sib 7.1 that's on my laptop in order to achieve this.

Bestest regards to one and all.

Gwyn.

Yes, you can run both versions of Sibelius on the same PC, and you only use up one of your licenses in doing so.

However, once you have registered Sibelius 7.x, you cannot afterwards use your Sibelius serial number to register an earlier version of Sibelius without assistance from Avid registration support. Ask for their help at http://avid.force.com/Support/RegistrationCaseCreation

Thanks Robin, you may have saved my sanity (although it's a value judgement on my part as to whether I had any to save).

Gwyn.

" I'm sure I'll adapt eventually. "

Don't be to sure, After 7 month I have not, my work speed is about 50% of what it was in Sib 6. I really try…

I agree. I'm finding it VERY slow going- and not only due to the different layout, but the actual software is SO slow especially inputting text.

As someone who earns a living using Sibelius are EXTREMELY disappointed and I imagine there are many who agree with me.

I certainly hope the next update is coming soon otherwise I will be returning to Sib 6.

We know about the text editing speed problems, and we have a good plan for how to improve that. We are aware of other speed problems, too, and we are working on the performance of the application in general. The next update should bring substantial performance improvements in several areas.

Yes, that's great and since I guess we are stuck with the ribbon I think it was Laurence that suggested that the tabs open on mouse over and stays open while mouse is in the region.
That would really help a lot.

That new is encouraging Daniel.

As Jesper says above, yes we are "stuck with the ribbon". I do wonder what brought it about. Was it a need to compete with Finale and perhaps entice users over to Sibelius?

To me, the new interface is more a change rather than an improvement. Since I have to change the way I work, perhaps there hasn't been a more convenient time to check out Finale....

I continue to use a copy of M.S. Word 2003 only because it was the last version of that programme to employ a proper menu system, all subsequent versions use the so-called ribbon. I did try, but to no avail, I'll try with Sibelius 7(x) too.

It seems such a drastic and unnecessary change.

I've been using both Sib6 and Sib7 now for nearly a year. Give me 6 any time. The ribbon makes 7 SO slow to use, and, contrary to what Sibelius claim, it doesn't get any more intuitive over time. It wastes time for those of us who need Sibelius for our profession and for whom time is money. What a shame that a program that started out with such professionalism has been reduced to this!

Richard
