Sib. 7.0: Metronome mark in 7.0? Is there an easier way?
Posted by petey forrest - 04 Feb 12:24AM
Hi everyone,

I've had some trouble creating a metronome mark midway into a Sibelius 7 ukulele score. It seems very tricky now with the dropdown menus in the TEXT TAB - format. I got it to work after messing with a bunch of different settings. Please let me know an easier way to do this. Here were my steps:

1) Select a note at the start of the score
2) Ctrl Alt + T
3) Type q=130
4) In the TEXT TAB, select ¶: Metronome mark
5) In the TEXT TAB, select a: Music text
6) In the TEXT TAB, select Font: Opus Metronome Std

At that point, the quarter note appears, replacing the "q" and everything works.

However, this seems very convoluted selecting all those pull-down menu options. Is there an easier way? What are the proper setting in the TEXT TAB - format?

Thanks!

Peter

As in Sib 6, I always enter the quarter note by either right clicking and pulling it from the menu, or using ctrl+numpad 4, and then typing the rest.

Changing the font explicitly for the q was always way harder than it needed to be.

Hi Bob,

After doing Ctrl-Alt-T, and I right-click, there is no option to select a quarter note. I just get the list of tempo markings (allegro, etc...).

See attached image.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the screen shot. I don't get that second half with the notes. I get letters there instead. Weird. I'm trying to attach the JPG again but here is the link just in case.

http://ukulelenorth.ca/temp/tempolist.jpg

My score is a Ukulele-Notation score. However, I created a new default score with one staff as a test and I can see the quarter note after Ctrl-Alt-T when right-mouse clicking. Humph!

What could that be?

It is probably a font problem of some sort. Check what you are using as the music font.

Hi Bob,

To be more clear, I had imported a simple XML file from Finale 2012 into Sibelius. I wonder if that caused the font problems upon import? When I look at my two documents, there is a difference:

"Edit All Fonts" Dialog (CURRENT UKE DOCUMENT)

Main Text Font:
Unchanged (Times New Roman)

Main Music Font:
Unchanged (Opus Std)

Music Text Font:
Unchanged (Times New Roman)

******************

"Edit All Fonts" Dialog (NEW TEST DOCUMENT)

Main Text Font:
Unchanged (Plantin MT Std)

Main Music Font:
Unchanged (Opus Std)

Music Text Font:
Unchanged (Opus Text Std)

***

So, everything works in the new Sib. document. Should I just change those font settings in my current imported XML document to match the default ones in the second? I really don't know much about the default house styles.

Thanks for all your help! Cheers!

Peter

Petey,

I’ve put Room 51 in Kreuzberg on my list of must see places, if I ever get the chance to return to Germany.

Not that you have to care, but I thought I’d let you know.

A song with a nice spirit.

Take Care,

Jim

@Bob: Changing to those default fonts seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks a lot!

@Jim: Kreuzberg (Berlin) is a really cool city. I just went to meet up with other Berlin ukulele players and I discovered that I loved that place. Plenty of musical inspiration and the beer and wine is great! I took up playing the ukulele 6 years ago as a portable instrument to bring with me on vacation and I found I just started coming up with song ideas. These are basically my musical "postcards" of my trips so I'll have something to enjoy as memories in my declining years! hehe Glad you enjoyed the Kreuzberg song.

cheers

Petey

The music text font shold not be times new roman; it should be one of the fonts with "Text" in the name.

Thanks Bob.

I probably picked "Times Roman" up when I imported the XML file and I never pay attention to the options. Everything is fine now. Thanks,

Petey
