Sib. 7.1: Printing in color
Posted by Robby Poole - 22 Jan 09:21PM
I have an issue, that I never had with Sib 6.

I use the highlight feature to highlight measures that might have issues, or might need to be discussed, etc. In Sib 6 when I printed, I turned color printing on, and the measure had a nice highlight around it, just as it shows on the screen. However, in Sib 7, when I try to do the same thing, and black box appears over the measures that I highlighted.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to print in color using Sib 7.1?

Yes, to print highlights in Sib 6, you would check the "View menu options" checkbox as in screenshot.

I wonder how it is handled is Sib 7 ???

I have "view menu options" checked (or the equivalent in Sib 7), and it prints the whole thing in black and white, no color, and the area where the highlight is supposed to be, is a huge black box around the measure (same dimensions as the highlight).

I don't have the option in the OS dialog to turn on color. Nor do I have the "Sibelius" print setting in the OS Dialog, like I used to.

I need help. Any takers?

I believe that on a Mac in Sib 7 it always prints in color. I assume you are printing to a color printer. Does a PDF file look the same as a printout?

Yes, Bob is correct: Sibelius 7 always prints in colour on Mac. What kind of printer do you have, Robby?

Daniel, I have a Brother HL-4040CDN, full color, 2 sided printer, with the latest drivers.

Every other program I have prints in color with no error (i.e., MS Word, Pages, Keynote, Excel, Numbers), except Sibelius 7.

Sib 7 is not printing on color on my Mac. Over the highlight area (yellow on the home screen), the printing option turns it to black. See the attached graphic.

Printing/Exporting to PDF does not allow me to add the color into the PDF. At leads not on the 1 or 2 times I tried.

Funny Thing just happened. I went to print another file, with the "View options" box checked, and it printed up the page formatting marks (start new system arrows). The arrows were in blue/purple as they are on the screen. When I added a highlight to one of the measure, it comes out black with the arrows still being in blue/purple. Maybe it's an error with the highlight function?

Hi

I just printed a page of score with coloured highlight, correctly, direct from Sibelius. I would suspect the print drivers, if I knew anything about it, which I don't really.

Do you know whether you're using the manufacturers' drivers, or a Gutenprint or CUPS driver for your printer? It certainly seems that Sibelius doesn't know your printer can print in colour.

Daniel,

I think it does know it can print in color, hence the blue/purple arrows for forced system changes print in those colors when view options is checked. It just seems to be the highlight function.

As far as what driver, I am pretty certain that I am using the manufacturers' drivers. Several months ago I had the CUPS driver I think (not sure what that is exactly, but it said it next to the name of the printer in all OS Print dialog boxes). But for the last several months, my Mac found new drivers and the word CUPS went away.

I'll do some more tests to see what else I can find out.

Daniel,

I'll even go one step further. I changed the color of the Title to "red" on a work sheet I am working on. I went into the print menu, and the title appears in black. I switched to my HP Photosmart 7700 series printer, and the title in the preview screen stays black. It never seems to change.

Not sure what I can say, other than the fact that it shows everything in black, except for that it has to know it prints in color because of the formatting arrows, the other things aren't changing colors though. I'll attach some more items.

Here is the pic from inside the print "menu" in Sib 7.

As you can see the title is in black, but the arrows are in blue. Not sure why it is only picking up some of the items to print in color.

The screenshot in that thread is completely grey. Is that what you're seeing? If not, can you resend please.

I just tested printing highlight and it printed perfectly as in screenshot.

Sorry we haven't been of more help.

You have to download the pic to see the whole thing. The page is there, it's just that my screen is so big, it captured the whole thing. I'll try to repost the shot with just the page showing, and none of the options.

OK, here is a shot of a page in the "preview" window. You can see the formatting arrows are in purple, but the highlight is just a black box.

That certainly is weird!

Only the highlights are turning black.

Just so you know, my yellow highlights have printed out and it might just be the drivers that are available for Brother printers.

I know it's no consolation, but I've switched from Epson to HP printers (because of paper loading issues). I have two, and have never had printing problems with them and I always print in color.

I've seen nothing in the Brother HL-4040CDN Reviews that explains the problem you're having.

Sorry I don't have more helpful information.

Try as a last resort clicking on the highlight so there is a blue box around it and calling up the Color Wheel (right-click or Ctrl + click on highlight blue edge to select it) to see if you can change the color to yellow as in screenshot.

Re: Sib. 7.1: Printing in color

Daniel,

Once again, I am running into this print issue. I am wondering if you are any closer to what might the issue with my highlights not printing.

As earlier, somethings do print in color (formatting arrows/system breaks, page breaks, etc.) The title and the highlighting do not.

Also, if there ever is a fix to this, it would be nice to have the option of just printing the highlights in the future. I do a lot of drum stuff, and sometimes, I highlight measures if they are completely different from anything else being played. I'd like to be able to print just the highlight instead of printing all of the formatting marks.

Thanks for your help!

Robby, can you try trashing your Sibelius 7 preferences file, which is com.avid.sibelius7.plist in /Users/[your username]/Library/Preferences, and see if that helps? I have a peculiar feeling that it might.

I too am having problem printing in color. It looks like color on the screen. When you go to the print menu the preview shows up in black and white. This is how it prints. If I export it to Sibelius 6 and print it it works fine. Anyone have a fix for this

Have you tried trashing your preferences file? Delete com.avid.sibelius7.plist from ~/Library/Preferences.
