Sib. 6.x: Repeat barline at the start
Posted by Nigel Gray - 09 Jan 01:19PM
You start a new score, and lay down the initial stuff - manuscript type, font, key, time signature etc. Then you put a start repeat bar in, and what happens - Sib moves the time signature to the right hand side of the repeat bar - why? Surely the correct place for the time signature is immediately next to the key signature.

Has this been fixed in Sib 7?

Hi there

No change to this in Sib 7. It is, apparently, a deeply-coded setting, and so would require an inordinate amount of work to change.

Conventionally, you don't need a start repeat barline at the beginning of a piece, although there are exceptions, of course.

The more common situation where a time signature and a start repeat barline appear together is mid-piece, where the time signature changes. Here there are probably as many occasions where Sibelius's default order is right, as situations where it's wrong.

(Sib is right when the last bar of the upcoming repeated section is in a different time signature, so the repeat back needs to supply a time signature change again.)

The quickest fix is to change their locations by dragging, or by using the x-parameter in the General pane of the Properties window.

Hope that helps
